Modeler's Spotlight Video-- Inside Cody's Office for February 10, 2011

Cody
Totally Kwel tie! And a Johnny Carson, too! It will be a heirloom.
Someone else beat me to the solder for hose suggestion but never thought about fishing lead. The webcam layout looks interesting.
If you get tired of digging out your car from the snow, talk MR into moving here to Arizona - my backyard thermometer reads 79 degrees. (Our Chamber of Commerce doesnt allow snow. Why am I on this darn computer?)
Happy anniversary. Great show!

I agree with Thomas! I’d like to see how you made the rail car loading stand. I’ve got four to build for my layout. Is it scratch built or is it from the Walthers kit?

I used wire for hoses on my Walthers plastic pellet storage off loading stations. There are serveral offloading stations along the pipe and I left the wire inside the insullation so i could coil each hose up on a hook at each station. I can send pictures if anyone would like to see it.

Congratulations of 4 years of great stuff, and I hope many more years of the same. This is the first segment I look for when I log in. Thanks for the good info and the many smiles along the way. Oh, nice deal on the tie!!

I have a question about PRR diesel units. What is the correct time protocol for the rooftop antennae? Been trying to model PRR Trains in the Ohio Panhandle, namely between Cincinnati and Chicago. Thanks for your help. Don Corbin

Does Cody take everything he reviews apart?

Cody, I’ve used the wire casing idea, but would like to know where to get the pipe fittings & valves… like the out-takes… Jim…

Would the Jiffyrailer work as a permanent installation, in hard to reach spots, to take care of the persistent car that always wants to jump the track?

Have you guys gone on to a bi-weekly schedule, instead of weekly? This is devastating! My routine for a long time now has been to check the segment out on Thursday as I left work. In effect, you became the “starting event” of my weekend.

It throws off my whole weekend when there isn’t a show!!! ;>)

Thanks for answering my question. I didn’t have a clue, and now I do.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! Personally, your video is pretty much the only reason why I look at this site. That Pillsbury Boy rendition was a hoot!!!

Cody, that “casing” is know as insulation. Another material to use is shrink wrap insulation. It is already hollow and is available in rolls, precut, or in assortment packs of various diameters. If it is too big, or you need to make a tight fit just apply heat and it shrinks in place. Give it a try.
It is surprising how you’ve aged in just 4 years, sort of like the President! Always love the outtakes.

Regarding the recent weather: this morning at my house, it was 3 below. If more interest was the Snowy Owl I saw at 2:39 pm [when the temperature was a balmy 12 degrees above] in a woodlot near my home. I strongly suspect it was driven this far south to this part of Michigan by the extreme temperatures we’ve had of late as they normally don’t range this far south. Hope your car melts into view soon!

Cody, I have been modeling for 35 years but I still look forward to your how to section on Cody’s Office. Keep up the good work and you are a hit!!

Solder is another material that makes for a very realistic hose (after painting of Course). Solder comes in many gages and if there is no strain or movement involved it bends quite realistically. Just another alternative. I enjoy your videos, Cody, keep up the good work.

I enjoyed Cody’s Office, especially the section on creating scale hoses.

Thanks for reviewing the Jiffy Railer product. I’ve seen it advertised in Model Railroader and was interested, but couldn’t figure out their shipping charges, which seemed exhorbitant. Your review listed their website, where I find the product is made for HO track of Code 100. Who uses that these days?? Wonder if they will make a Code 70 rerailer? And perhaps a reasonable shipping charge.

Viola?
Reminds me that my wife is concerned over “very close” veins.

What? No introduction of Heeeere’s Cody!
Congrats on four years Cody and David.

Hi Cody,
I enjoy every episode and learn something from each one. The hose project is just what I was looking for when I build a bleach factory for my layout. Can you tell me how you constructed the platform the hoses are attached to? It is similar to the platform in the picture I have of a bleach factory.
