Modeler’s Spotlight Video – Inside Cody’s Office for March 2015

Cody, great video, as always.

Lotion tip (from a fellow Dry-Hands guy…) I used to use Corn Husker’s lotion all the time. I then realized it didn’t really do much compared to other lotions. Then I looked at the ingredients - one of the first ingredients is Alcohol. Hmmm, not the best thing for moisturizing your hands.

Great show Cody. Can’t wait for the seminar on lubing the HO steam locomotives.

Cody are your shirt colors the Twins or some version of the Great Northern diesel schemes? Nice look and thanks for the tips on finding prototype operation notes off of actual railroad publications, there are some of those resources online as well.

Great episode. I had a question regarding the Rice Harbor layout from last year:

I’ve installed the N-Scale version of the Walthers Built-Up Turntable … works great. I was wondering if you could give us a close up of the turntable in your Rice Harbor layout. I’m specifically looking for the techniques you used to weather and detail the turntable to blend it into the scene. Also, seeing how you detailed and weathered the bottom of the turntable pit (knowing you have to be extremely careful around the pivot point for the bridge and the rail). Hope to see some info in a future episode of Cody’s Office or Cody’s Workshop.

Thanks for your help.

Cody, Well another fine episode, nice new locos and scenery molds. Are you building your home layout yet, and after the track plan of your old home town. Let us know how your progress is going on you layout. Great tour of your offices and the MR&T. Thanks a bunch happy railroading to all fellow modelers.

Cody, Excellent Work! I love your idea of the introduction of prototype charts, maps, and operating timetables, to those modelers who might have been unaware of their availability until this episode. Google maps is another great source of visual information that I used in my model railroad planning.

Cody, informative as always. Do you have a source for Positive Train Control (PTC) antenna groups in N Scale? How about a review of the new Atlas N Scale 40-8, especially in Arizona Eastern?

Cody, how do you get the perfectly pleated skirting below the fascia on the MR&T?

Cody, you must work hard to create this bloopers at the end of Cody’s Office. I am sure you never make mistakes while taping each episode. cough, cough, choke.

I really liked the “quick” video walk-thru of your office layout, but would like to see a video of a more detailed walk-thru, with brief comments about towns, industries and other points of visual interest. Just as important is that I also liked that it was a bit “stepped back”, which got a better perspective of the layout and how it all fits together, as oppose to close-ups as when demonstrating engines. Being a video also helped accomplish that purpose, as oppose to just photos. Also it would be nice during a particular area’s walk-thru, to also maybe see a view of that area but from a higher perspective (i.e. camera man on ladder). I wouldn’t expect this video to be longer than 10 minutes, assuming that my impression of the layout’s total size is correct.

  • Dennis (my subscription in in my wife’s (Lynne) name)

Good job Cody. One of your better efforts.

CODY the rock was 6 " tall and 17" wide not log verey funy cody

I would like to echo the walk thru request made by Lynne & Dennis, and you put on a great show once again.
Thanks.

Another great video, however, I am curious as to why Cody did not discuss how the Rapido F40PH-2Ds are HEP locomotives. They were run as head end power locomotives on the prototype and Rapido was kind enough to include the programming on the decoder to run them as such.

Cody, I would like to know why railroads put the lead engine facing forward and the second engine backwards?

Always a great job Cody. I get my sanding sticks from my wife’s Avon supplies. Just don’t tell all the guys

Do the folks from other Kalmbach publications (like Fine Scale Modeler) ever go to the MR&T layout room to run trains?

Cody, as always look forward to your articles, this one was great! I do have a question, how would you put on air hoses on a athearn unit? The units have little nubs on them, thanks for looking into this.

Cody. Is it possible to request your suggestion(s) for a DCC starter system? I’m considering the purchase and the available equipment is extensive.

Thanks.
