Modeler's Spotlight Video -- Inside Cody's Office for September 16, 2010

Like it that it appears you are now recording in 16 x 9 widescreen.

Brett who???

Cody, I know that the Noch static grass application uses a very high voltage to generate its static field. Is there any danger of electrostatic discharge damage to electronics, like DCC systems, if the applicator is used near the track? Are there any precautions that need to be taken if you are using this device near the tracks?

Great show Cody as usual, hey are they static whiskers on your chin??
Robert

Hi Cody,

Lose the beard.

Bob Vukich

Cody:

What the hey is this Brett Farve junk?

I hope the locals didn’t hear it.

Bob

Cody
Whats that dirt on on your face? Did your forget to get close enough to the wash cloth, Just kidding. I’m curious to see how the beard works out. I know you are probably taking a ribbing about it. Don’t worry, they’ll get over it.
I’ve had a beard that I kept since 1977 until 2005 or 2006 (not sure). I kept it year round. I did shave a couple of times on a bet, that I won. Know I only have a goatee and I shave my head. The only problems is sweat off my forehead running into my eyes when working out side.

Cody, you are approaching rock star status with the videos! Glad for your facial hair, too, as you probably got kidded about your youthful look. Keep pushing MR, even amidst your football A.D.D. (ally right here, friend!), to do more with video. No doubt the magazine will go more and more electronic with the years and the generations, but you gotta connect with the younger emerging train buffs. Go for it! (65 year old guy here)

I need the supplier of the masks for painting wheels and trucks Cody demonstrated. Thanks Cal. wcalvin@triad.rr.com.

Cody, I can’t find the best place to ask this question, so this is a place that I hope you read and can give me an answer. I have a 60’ grain car, made by bachmann. The detailing on the side of the car is Canada, rptg #606902. It is red with while lettering and gold wheat stalks. It is underweight, and I can’t find a way to open it. I have removed the trucks, the coupler box and two flat head Philips screws, about .5in, and the top still does not come off. Help, please.

I enjoyed the segment on static grass. Is there a way to get a simular affect with out the device. Funds are tight for me so i tend to do alot by hand, but i seem to get a clumping affect when applying the grass. Also whats the best ratio of water to matte medium? Thanks!

In this issue, I noticed what looked like MR article cutouts attached to the fascia, under a plastic cover. Whats up? I don’t recall having seen these cutouts before…

I found an on-line article about making a static grass applicator from an $8- or $9 electric fly swatter (no kidding!) I visited my local Harbor Tools (yep, we have one in Carson City) and scored the swatter. Now, I just have to get busy with the rest of that project…

Cody,
I noticed football season makes it difficult to count is it the same for the beard making a comeback? Good show as usual keep up the good work.

hi Cody how to you install a DCC decoder in a old tyco switcher? Great Show!

Cody:
Another great video. I’ll be a couple years before worrying about grass applications though.
Still waiting to see if you do a video or article about the variety of couplers and who’s can be mixed and matched! Thank heavens it’s train show time!
P.S. If you don’t shave soon, you’ll be looking like Farve!

Thanks for the tips on the static grass. That’s my fall project and now that I see how it’s done I feel more confident I can do a good job. David, how about a move to HD videos so we actually see those static grass blades standing up!
Need help choosing the right camera? I work for Panasonic Broadcast… hint hint!

Thanks guys

I am offened by previous statments. Cody & David uGuys do a great job. Ilook forward to each installment & have learned alot from . Keep up the great work. What is the best way to clesn track?

I could use some tips on what to do about dust on a layout.
How can you remove dust (that builds up over time) on grass areas, trees, ect.?

good show

Where can I get plans for scratch building freight cars?
Great show!

You had a segment on how to build a 24" staging area hinged to a 4 x 8 layout. I’ve checked all recent issues and unable to locate. Can you help?
