Modeler’s Spotlight Video – Interview with Pelle Søeborg
Fantastic interview. It was very opportune since I am in the midst of building my fourth layout which is BNSF, desert, will have a cement factory, etc, etc. I hope to see more of Pelle’s work in the future and get more ideas for my evolving layout. Keep the good work up!!!
His views on various aspects of layout design were interesting. Actually seeing how he does some things like between track landscaping variations (almost like sculpting) was beneficial. Hopefully there will be a followup interview.
I wished I had his tallent…
Pelle has always been an incredible artist in his layouts. The detail has always been stimulating, however, this last interview gives me an interesting perspective. I’ve been looking at a completed layout, built over a six year period, and like Pelle, I seem to only go to it when visitors come over. I’ve been toying with tearing it down and building a new one, but there’s always that hesitation to take the first step. Well, if Pelle Soeborg can consider and actually TEAR DOWN ONE LAYOUT TO MAKE ANOTHER, than by golly, so can I. This has to be the first time somebody inspired someone to destroy a layout!
Pelle is awesome. I always like his articles on anything he does, It helps me with my layout alot. Thanks for all you do Pelle Keep it coming. Thanks.
Pelle sets the bar high for all of us to reach!
Beautiful work!
Makes me wish I lived in Denmark so I could see and operate the new layout! Look forward to more from Pele in future. I fell in love with the old layout the first time I saw it, so I’m sure the new one will be incredable. I will be startign on a new layout myself in a few months. I hope it turns out half as good as Pele’s.
I have the greatest admiration for Pelle and his work. He is truly an inspiration to all who follow him and I feel honored having met him at NMRA. Tak ver dae.
Pelle has done such a fine job with his present layout, I’m anxious to see and watch the progress of his new layout.
Pelle’s layout is my all time favorite…probably because it is my exact same area and era of interest. I live in Miami, but I have been lucky enough to travel to the Mojave area dozens of times. I can hardly wait to see what this talented gentleman will build next.
Great video, most of my scenery techniques were inspired by Pelle and his books. I look forward to seeing the new layout.
I find it interesting that Pelle likes to model American Railroads. He certainly take great pains to get just the right colors, scenery, and details, and this shows up in his fine modeling. Kudos to him.
Pele is an inspiration. I also model a desert location and am learning a lot from him.
Looking forward to more articles from Pelle. I have admired his work in the past and used a number of his ideas and techniques on my own layout as it’s being built.
I am very saddened that he is tearing up his beautiful layout, but on the other hand, I look forward to what he is now doing. Thankfully (for Kalmbach) his current layout has been “imortalized” in words and pictures for future reference. What I would like to see before it’s all gone is, a video tour of his layout that could become part of the ‘Dream, Plan, Build’ series - sort of a 60-minute special with some operations thrown in to show how it all works.

My favorite contributor to the magazine by far is Pelle. This work inspires my work to not try to do too much and finding that happy medium perfect with detail and realism.
Thanks MR for this video
In my opinion, Pelle is truly one of the greats at modeling scenery, and photographing his work. The ultra-realism of his work is refreshing, and even though I model the L&N in the Appalachians, I still see many ways to apply his philosophy of minimalistic scenery.
I look forward to learning the results of his roadbed sound deadening experiment. A question for Neil or Pelle: What was the element in the previous roadbed system that was making it noisy? Will there be an article on this soon?
Very interesting gentleman, with a very interesting layout!
nice guitar work… who does it?
