Does anyone have any reliable online sources for Badger Modelflex paints. My closest LHS is now 3 gallons of gas away and I would rather mail order on line where the inventory is more reliable. ??? Cedarwoodron
I think Wholesaletrains.com has it ,good prices to, I got it there before…Jerry
Cedar,
You can visit H&R Trains as they were one of the first stores in the Tampa Bay area to carry Modelflex.
BigJerr is on point regarding Wholesale Trains:

On the plus side, Modelflex is ready to spray out of the bottle for a standard paint job(although for weathering washes you can thin it additionally with distilled water). The paint lays on smoothly from an airbrush at 25-30psi at the airbrush cap (imho).
If this will be your first time spraying Modelflex, I would humbly suggest practicubg on a scrap piece first as the “feel” is slightly different compared to applying solvent based paints.
On the “cautious” side:
-
Don’t leave it inside of the airbrush for a long stretch of time. Flush out as soon as you’re finished. I use a mix of distilled water and 70% Isopropyl alcohol for cleanup.

Some modelers have reported that their Modelflex bottles dried out in less than a year. I have several plastic Modelflex bottles that are over 5 years old with the paint still intact. Key is to clean the inside of the bottle cap and the rim of the bottle opening. All it takes is for a tiny amount of air to gradually seep inside the bottle and turn the paint into a dried lump.
The orange-yellow color on the GMC Fishbowl bus on the left is a Modelflex mixture of Santa Fe Yellow and Santa Fe red. Neither bus is finished yet, but have come quite a way from their original appearances.

You can buy Modelflex direct from the distributer at $2.40 a bottle: http://www.modelflexpaint.com/Paint.html However, at $8 for shipping it pays to buy at least a 1/2 dozen bottles (same color or various colors).
