Modeling an SD40-2B

ANY railroad can have one! Lets say your railroad purchases an SD40-2 and its missing a seat, toilet,Coded cab signals, has no Dynamic barkes, and lacks a radio. So what to do? Otherwise its perfect engine. Just turn it into a B unit by painting over the windows and letting it run second or third always. My SD40-2B’s are equipped with extended range dynamic brakes.
I am going to make a third one soon! I will post photos of it here soon. By the way the unit was built for my RR in 1982. It will be an RC unit in British Columbia Pacific paint(my private RR[:D])it will captive to yard and helper service. I am thinking of equipping it with coded cab signals and sunshades.[|)] it was built with lights and has them blanked out now.

Cool. I’ve seen a few 1:1 on the UP. They don’t even blank the windows out, just put a B after the road number.

Sorry to nitpick, but aren’t SD40-2B"s, UP put “B” in front of the number on a few units in the 90’s when they ran out of four digit numbers. The other choice would have been to use five digit numbers, but that would have conflicted with freight car numbers.

To keep my post on-topic, I plan on having some CP SD40-2B’s in both N and HO scale.

I made an HO scale version of a SOO “B” unit some time ago - #6450. What’s different with this one is they placed the dynamic brake blister and roof fans where the cab was located. The work was originally done by BN. It also has a high short hood. Neat model!
