No, that title is not a mistype. The section of the river that runs by the ranch that I grew up on has a sandbar on the opposite bank that frequently has river clamshells on it. I would like to recreate that on a river extension I putting in on a new section of benchwork. Does anyone have any good ideas on how to model something like that in HO scale?
As usual, any ideas anyone can suggest would be most welcomed.
Get some tiny beads and fine sand. Just the glint of the “shells” should be enough to visually make it work.
You can get 1/16" hple punches that can be used on thin plastic, still a little large for HO scale
I did some hunting on the internet and found Miyuki delica seed beads in size 11/0. They are a tube type bead which the size converts to roughly 6" wide in HO scale. I have them watched and will get them later on.
I’m working on a New England wharf scene & will be needing many shells for roads & parking lots. I found that crushed egg shells look realistic. I put them in a plastic zip lock bag & roll over them with a rolling pin. Put them thru some kind of strainer to get the size you want. Much better than round beads.
The particular beads that I ordered are a tube type bead, rather than the round as suggested. Given that the shells I remember are more oval that circular, that seemed like a better idea that a round bead.
