modeling PRR

I have some PRR equipment but would like to include other RRs on my layout as well. Can anyone tell me what other RRs the PRR may have crossed track with (mid 50’s era.) I assume NYC, who else? I’d love to have a silver Burlington passenger train, but I think that CB&Q was mostly Chicago and west.

thx, Don

A Few

B&O, C&O, CNJ, DT&I, RDG, LV, Erie, DL&W, Raritan River, EBT, NYC&StL, Monon, Milw, C&EI, L&HR, Stewartstown, MA&PA, WM, N&W, Southern, L&N, Canton, Wabash, B&LE, Montour, Niagara Junction, Washington Terminal, NY,NH&H, D&H, Strasburg, Steelton & Highspire, RF&P

And while they did not physically connect, the PRR ran passenger trains to New York for ACL and SAL and these trains sometimes included cars of the FEC.

The PRR probably crossed the CB&Q in a few places in Illinois.

Add the Detroit,Toledo & Ironton;Illinois Central.

There recently was an issue of Trains or Classic Trains where they discussed all the stations serving Chicago. They showed the lines of all the RR coming into Chicago. Just follow the PRR lines and see who they cross.

The Pennsy had two major lines into Illinois, that ran to Chicago and St. Louis. They also had a third line that ran to Peoria (really a branch). With all this trackage in and around Illinois, the Pennsy ran across most of the major carriers in Illinois (Rock, CB&Q, C&EI, IC, GM&O, ATSF, Milwaukee, C&NW…).

If you want to feature the Pennsy on your layout, but have a variety of trains from other roads (especially passenger) why not base your layout on Chicago or St. Louis? Even if your layout’s just flavored by one of these towns (and not many of us have the room to do big cities justice) it will add an air of authenticity to your layout, and allow you to run basically whatever you like.
