My beautiful bride bought me a used pvc pebble mat it is roughly 2" wide and 4-5" long. I feel like a little kid and doesn’t know what to do with it, is it used as a press mold into wet plaster, is it glued down and painted or is it used as a retaining wall? I did a few searches on the internet with no joy - any ideas?
I too googled “PVC” pebble mat, and i can’t imagine what it’s use would be as far as using for modeling Roads. Perhaps if you could provide a picture of it, more uses or applications would be forthcoming.
I removed a dirt road to replace it with a gravel one which I read about on the MR Hobbyist webpage. Someone made a gravel road using plaster and small gravel used for lining bird cages. He put the gravel in a bag and crushed it with a hammer before seucuring to the wet plaster. This easy, cheap, and fast process looks great on the layout.
Some reptile media is crushed walnut shells (also used by reloaders to tumble brass cases) The stuff I’ve seen is pretty fine and should work well. Corn cob media (also used in reloading) is too big, like extra large HO ballast
I know the feeling my wife bought me some stick on asphalt roads made by Busch in Germany I am using them everywhere on the SIW except for grade crossings (where I am using modeling clay. The markings need to changed from white to yellow for American roads and I will need to weather and detail them later.
Having a heck of a time with the picture, but you can find it online. Imagine a feild stone fireplace from floor to ceiling only flat and all brown. I am not at that stage yet as I had torn down my old frame work and build a new one that is based on the Port Thomas and Northern layout, find it in the track plan data base, as a foot print I am 90% done noe and hope to have the rest done this weekend. But I love all the tips I get here
OK, I know what this is without the picture. It is, just what it says, a pebble road. Your suppose to roll it out, flatten, and it’s suppose to be used as a “road” for use with the buildings from the Lemax Village Collection. A series of “collector” buildings, and scenes, just like the Hawthorne Village pieces are.
These collections are close enough to use with HO scale. Years ago, my daughter got me the Hawthorn Village Green Bay Packers village and train set. I use it for my Christmas layout.
You could use the pebble road for whatever you think would look good. It could be painted to look more like stone. On their web site, look at “Enhancements” (strange wording), and you can see the accessories.
