Hey everyone,

Just curious about a buliding in the Model Railroaders “Modeling the 50’s book” from 2008 It’s the GULF gas station in chapter 3. It’s by Paul J. Dolkos on his layout… Just curious if anyone knows how to contact him, or if anyone knows if it’s a kit from a manufacturer or what. Any info would be appreciatted.

My advice would be to contact the editors of Model Railroader, and ask them to pass your question on to Mr. Dolkos.

I haven’t seen it mentioned in years, but the policy at MR USED to be if you enclosed your correspondence in another envelope they would take your inside envelop and address it on to the author in question. You need 3 envelopes - one self-addressed and stamped for Mr Dolkos to write back to you, your envelope with just his name on it with space for someone to fill out the rest of the address, containing your inquiry and the SASE, also stamped, and the outer envelope addressed to Kalmbach (I think it was actually author’s name c/o Kalmbach.

Dunno if they still offer this service, in these days of nearly everyone having email. Perhaps they would forward email to avoid giving out the author’s email address.

Patrick, how about simply posting the image of the Gulf gas station that appears in the book? It’s a Kalmbach/MR publication, so I would find it hard to believe that there would be any conflict of interest, or copyright issues…it would more likely benefit Kalmbach. Be assured that the book is by no means in wide enough circulation that many folks here are likely to be able to respond to your question. The one photo of the book’s cover showing the gas station that I found on-line was too fuzzy to be sure what kit (if it was a kit) was used to make the structure. I’m rather sure if an image of it was to be posted, an identification would be forthcoming quite quickly.
