A G-scale member of my Yahoo group wrote (below) asking for help. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

I am a member of the Las Vegas Garden Railway Society.

I would like to know if models of packing house, orange groves, etc. are available to purchase. If not how can I get help modifying my current layout for modeling the citrus industry.

Thanks,
Jim

Hey! I represent that remark![#dots]

no specific packing house models that I know of either…

Piko, Pola and Garden Texture all sell generic “warehouse” type kits that could easily be modified with new signage to represent a packing plant.

As for orange groves? small miniature shrubs in uniformly planted rows?

No kits that I know of
But all the packing sheds i have seen look like lare corrugated iron warehouses
so would not be too hard to make.
I think I saw a cold store kit once that may have posabilaties??

packing houses over around me that are gone were wooden buildings. i did see a block packing house on I-4 near lakeland that Kraft owned but it ain’t kraft anymore.
its amazing how much changes in 30yrs.

Well, I don’t know how much help this will be but you could easily make scale oranges with Fimo or Sculpey brand clay. Like a few others have said there are some nice warehouse kits out there, you would just have to change the signs.

Hi Bob,
This may help some. My partner makes RR car loads for citrus, that looks very convincing. Using a mix of styrofoam balls abut 1/16" of an inch in dia, mixing it up with orange paint and glue. He also is scratch building a “Hunt Brothers” packing house. If your interested I can put you in touch with him.
