Modelling a derail

Again I want to build a derail. This time for my narrow gauge module Salina. I want a cast block derail, but I run into problems. The derail is far too large. It protrudes into the clearance of the cars. Well, I use code 40 rails!

With my Diamond Valley this was no problem.ok, the cast block should glide. But that’s another point.

Any suggestions?

Wolfgang.

First off, Great modeling.

I am not a narrow gauger but from what I know the mow department had little or no operating budgets. Would they really have sprung for a cast derail when a split point could be built from stuff on hand?

Any way to fix what you have you can recess it into the ties. There is a passing siding not far from me with derails at both ends. The cast block is recessed into the ties about an inch or two. Then another tie is right up against the derail tie towards the switch frog. These are flip type like you have pictured. They are not interlocked with the switches but have head ties and stands.
