Modelling the UP 4-8-4 #844 excursion train

All-

After watching Extreme Trains I’m interested in modeling the typical UP excursion train. I know Athearn is releasing the aux tender around 6/09, they already make the 844, but my question surrounds the typical car consists. Anyone know what kind of cars these are and if they are available?

Well the tender they are releasing doesnt match the current protoype. Wasatch Railroad Contractors did a complete retrofit and rebuild of both of the aux tenders.

They run 2 or 3 baggage cars & a box up front. The box is for spare parts/service, and at least one of the baggage cars are for VIP’s to look out the open doors. These, and the rest of the consist are generally smooth side “streamlined” cars, and usually have a dome car or two, as well as the observation. The consist does change from time to time.[:)]

Thanks Lou - I think that Walthers may have some of these “stock” passenger cars.

Rapido has a good Baggae car, and possibly the right coaches as well. Athearn does make a boxcar that’s the right shape, but the silver on it needs to be grey.
