modeltrainstuff.com

Has anyone ever bought from this site? They have some sweet deals, and It looks legit, but I just want to make sure. Thanks!

Alec

Alec,

Yes, I recently bought an Erie FT A-B diesel from them for slightly over 50% off list. I bought it and had it in hand in about 4 days. I’d buy from them again. (Also known as M. B. Klein)

WCTransfer,

Modeltrainstuff.com = MB Kleins hobby store in Baltimore, MD. I’ve bought many things from them on the internet, over the phone and in the store. It’s legit. Good people, good prices. You won’t be sorry.

I’ve been using MB Klein’s for a while now with great success. Their discontinued books section sometimes has some really good things. I reserved a Proto 2000 E8 A/B set last year and the price was very good. They also had some switch panels I was looking for at a good price.

I have seen them at the train shows in Timonium. Usually good prices and a nice selection of items at their booth.

Thanks guys! Alec

I’ve ordered from MB Klein a few times. I’m very satisfied with their service and their prices are low.

Ordered twice and satisfied.
Did have a little trouble getting an item that was backordered. Had to keep reminding them to send it. I would suggest calling or emailing before you order to make sure they have the items in stock. If I can, I do that now with every place I order from.

MB Klein is a great site to shop. I have ordered from them on many ocassions. It is just a pain in the butt the way you have to fill out the order form. Its not automated like most others. But yes they have great prices and prompt service. I would highly rec them. Terry

YES I have purchased items through thier Internet Store and they are a regular seller on Ebay. Great bargins and great service!

Jim

I will add one thing to this thread.I recently ordered over the internet, and found out upon delivery that the most expensive item ordered was not in stock.I wanted to order as much as possible to get the most bang for the buck(shipping cost).I called them and asked why they did not get back to me and was told they were understaffed.

Long story short is this-----when placing an order do it over the phone so they can tell you if an item is in stock.other than that,I would order from them again

I have had nothing but good luck with M.B.Klein. It is hard to beat their prices and their service has always been top notch. I have also won some stuff off e-bay with the same good result. I always phone in my orders however. I look to see if they have got what I want on the website, write the numbers down and then phone my order in…

Tom

They are grrrrrrrrrrreat.

Hello wctransfer, I have nothing but good things to say about them also: good prices, fast shipping, excellent service and that’s taking into account I live in Canada (exchange rates, import tariffs and it still was a good deal)! Browsed the site and called in the order (credit card).

I echo what the others have already said, i.e., it’s a great place to do business with. I’m “spoiled” because they are only a 35-minute drive from my home. I strongly recommend [if your calling plan allows affordable long-distance calls] phoning them to get an availability check, their online lists are often several days old. I’ve saved myself a few fruitless drives into downtown Baltimore by calling ahead first.

These guys have been around for A LONG TIME!!! Great poeple and very helpful!

My dad told me they used to be a hardware store. Sometime in the late 40’s to early 50’s, they converted to nothing but trains.

Now for the sad news. Urban renewal is forcing them to relocate sometime next year to…Timonium! A co-worker told me about this on Thursday. The building they are in now will be demolished. Things are so bad in Baltimore City that folks have been “stealing” bricks off the building.

Anywho, Timonium will be a much better place for them!

Yup, they’re a good place. I’ve found some great deals on discontinued locomotives (P2K’s for $40) and they ship promptly.

Have they actually found a new location in Timonium? Last I heard, that is where they would prefer to move but they’re open to suggestions for any location that meets their requirements.

I hope they don’t suffer the same fate as another formerly-great HS (Pro Custom Hobbies) that relocated to a different town…

CSX,

Your right. They have yet to find a new home. I was under the impretion that they had found a new place. I don’t see them having an issue. In fact, moving out of Baltimore City in a place that was hard to get to and the area wasen’t the best to Baltimore County somewhere will more then likely help them.

I won two P2K locomotives on Ebay from them. Good service. The gentleman I spoke to on the phone was friendly.

I will likely purchase another locomotive from them, but I also want to support my local hobby shop as well.
