Is there any place that would list the cars that would make up Amtrak Trains in NC? I can find references for the engines, but not the cars. Wikipedia has information on some of the consists, but not all of them. If there’s not a general information source, I’m specifically interested in the Auto Train · Carolinian · Crescent · Palmetto · Piedmont · Silver Meteor · Silver Star
Nature abhors a vacuum, and I hate seeing a query with no reply so here’s something. Here is a photo of the northbound Palmetto pulling in to Florence, SC on December 17, 2009. It would have been in North Carolina within about an hour after this photo was taken.
I can tell you that the last car in the consist is a Cafe car, but the photo I took of the attendant assisting with baggage onto the last car doesn’t reveal the number of that car. Even if I had documented the number of each car, there would be no guarantee that the consist would be the same on its next run due to maintenance or expected passenger load. Internal Amtrak documents would certainly list the numbers, but unless one is modeling a specific train on a specific day, the car numbers would not likely be needed to prepare a very believable model or scene.

Thanks for the reply. I hadn’t seen a response so I thought this was a dead topic. Therefore I haven’t updated it with the fact that I’ve continued to do google research and have found some info on the intarwebs. I really like the picture. I’ve got the time tables of the trains, and I think I may just railfan one day and go take some pictures of the daily north/south trains. I’m really only interested in knowing how many of which types of cars are on the trains. But in the grander scheme of things, I’m still trying to decide exactly what and how to model so I may wind up cutting the track the amtrak’s would be running on anyway.

This is a list of the equipment used on the Piedmont. It is owned by NCDOT.
This is the Piedmont pulling into Charlotte, pulled by the GP40 that was severely damaged last week when it hit the Tractor Trailer.
The Carolinian is paid for by NCDOT but uses Amtrak Equipment. This is the Carolinian in Charlotte.
The Carolinian, from the front, runs one engine, one baggage car, one business class car, one Café car and several coaches. I’m not sure how many coach cars.
I just wanted to thank everyone for the info, but I’ve decided that I can’t model the area I wanted to so I’m not going to be able to run Amtrak trains. Maybe this thread will help someone else in the future.
