So I see modern ground throws here in NJ, they are like a bent rod painted yellow. Why haven’t I ever seen the modeled?
maybe its because many modelers are unaware of the fact that they have changed…
The bent rod is shaped like a triangle,it helps to decrease back injuries from bending over. The ex-CSX yard in Indiana where I work has been using them for five years.
And therein lies the rub. Various posters on these forums have dated their modeling eras all through the century from 1885 to 1985. I don’t recall a single one who claims to model the 21st century.
If you are modeling 2001-2006, by all means use those yellow things. But, please, don’t blame me for not installing them in 1964, a generation before the prototype started using them.

I don’t think you needed to explain to us that they are modern and you don’t model modern railroads.
It should be simple enough to modify a Caboose Industries throw with the triangular handle. I haven’t tried yet, mainly because the installations I’ve done needed high-level stands and not low-level throws.
I’ll have to experiment with some HO and N scale ground throws…
Then let me be the first, I model in …2006. Yes, in fact my shortline is getting rid of the ole 70 tonner for EMD to reflect that most modern shortlines are moving on from the 70ton and I hope to switch to the SW14 in a couple of months
But back to the main subject I know of two people that have built these modern throws with a little bit of difficulty.
