Modern highrisebuildings

My first post on this forum. I’m from the Netherlands and looking around for highrise buildings in H0. I saw a few old topics about it but not the information I’m searching for.

Googling around I saw the trainscenery of The museum of science and industry in Chicago. Wooowwww… what a beautifull modelrailroad scene!!! I only can dream of it.

My wish is to build some skyscrapers like Delftse Poort in Rotterdam with a lot of mirror glass. What are the options?

Thanks a lot for your atention!

Gerard,

[#welcome] to the forum! I was scanning through a bunch of old Model Railroader magazines and found an article about city buildings. There was a sidebar about a complete article in an older issue. Go to the Model Railroader Magazine home page and look for the link to back issues. The one you want is August 1992.

Faller and Busch both make modern office buildings which are mostly glass. The Faller one is 7 stories. The Busch one is modular, and can be made taller by add-on sections.

Or, you could build your own with sheets of plexiglass or lexan, using strip styrene on the outside for the framwork.

I made an order for the Model Railroader from august 1992. Thanks for that great tip.

I have allready the model from Busch and one from Kibri. The are beautyfull but not enough to get a metropool feeling.

I found some window sized mirrors of different sizes and shapes at the hobby/craft store. These can be hot glued in place of regular clear plastic window material. You can get creative and stick these little mirrors on outside styrene walls. Also, look here at this website http://mirroredmodelbuildings.com/

Thanks for the tip! In the few days I’m member of this forum, I got more tips and info than at the European forums in years.

I received the Modelrailroad Magazine previous week. This one is very helpfull.

Another thing to look for is architectural modeling supply sites. They sells all kinds of supplies for making sky scrapers. That’s a whole separate industry from model trains.

You might want to check the April/May issue (Run 228) of O Gauge Railroading magazine due out shortly. There will be an article on skyscraper construction using cardstock overlays on a Plexiglas or mirrored base. The same principles will apply to all scales.

also, the Kalmbach book, “BUILDING CITY SCENERY” has a page that tells how to build 2 different skyscapers. However, since it’s a reprint of an article from “MODEL RAILROADER” it’s probably the same one that the above poster mentioned. And you may not want to buy the entire book just for that one article.

Also,Atlas and Kato used to make 2 modern buildings, but I don’t know if they still do.
