I’m considering which passenger car to purchase to go along with the Kato Amtrak GE P42 “Genesis” I recently acquired. I’d appreciate any opinions on brands of cars, and things to watch our for if I’m depicting summer of 2009.

When talking about passenger cars, it helps a lot to know what scale you’re modeling in, and how big your curves are.
A few problems. Which side are you considering to model East or West coast? What’s the name train you’re planning on modeling in the summer 2009?
What paint scheme does your Amtrak wear? I hoping it’s Phase V with the lower red sill stripe.
Kato does sale Superliner cars in Phase IVb that fits the timeline perfectly. (106-3513 thru 106-3516) make sure to buy set A and B. If you didn’t get Amtrak P42 #150 than buy Intercity Express Phase VI (106-6285). Make sure to also get 3 car add on set (106-6282, or 106-6286). Don’t forget the baggage car (156-0953).
All these are in Phase IVb I put product numbers to help you on the right track.

Ignore what I said it’s in N Scale. Walthers sales the new Phase IVb Amfleet coaches and cafe cars. You might find the 85’ baggage cars and Viewliner Sleeping cars with the dining car. All in or around Ebay.
Lake shore Limited 2009 consist in Indiana: 2 P42, 1 baggage, 1 Viewliner Sleeper, 2 coach, 1 cafe, 4 coach, 1 cafe, 1 dining car, 2 Viewliner Sleeper, 1 baggage car.

It would be best to go to some railroad picture website and actually look up the train since 2009 is so recent and many more people take pictures now than twenty years ago. Here is the webpage of the Lake Shore Limited from a good Amtrak information website: http://trainweb.org/usarail/lakeshorelimited.htm Also, watch out on the coaches, Amtrak has two different kinds: Amfleet I and Amfleet II. The only real difference is that Amfleet II has doors only on one end while Amfleet I has doors on both ends.
