Modern railroad maps of Pittsburgh, Pa/construction.

I have been looking for railroad maps of pittsburgh PA forever! I can’t seem to find any! Does anyone knoe of modern Railroad maps for pittsburgh PA, maybe like CSX ones or ones that map out a road called Streetsrun rd.?

Any help would be greatly apreciated!

Have you checked the NS website or the CSX website?

CSX (ex-B&O) does start to parallel Baldwin road when it (CSX) crosses the Monongahela River from Glenwood going south. Baldwin road turns into Streets Run Road an continues to parallel the tracks. I don’t know where the tracks are going/coming from.

thanks 4 the info, i live right up on a hill near there, and i can see the trains (like 2 a day one at 3pm and one around 12am), i tried CSX and NS, but i dont feel like applying for a chance the get a external map. what i need to know is that are they working on the tracks behind the WHEMCO (sp?) building, because from satalite photos and topo maps, the tracks contine some where under that highway. PS i know about the CSX line there, but im talking About the WHEMCO siding/track. I’ll post a pic soon, because im going to go watch trains on the south side. maybe CSX is puting a new main in…

Unfortunately I can’t help you out any further. I am a native of Pittsburgh, but I been living in Columbus OH for 15 years now.

well, you should come back some time, and watch a steeler game, the southside (if you remember that) is a major CSX and NS hot spot, its nice now, there is a bike trail along the CSX tracks also.

Steam powered video is a publishing house that puts out very detailed maps that included current and abondoned routes. I can scan and email you ONE of the maps. Whats your email?

Well, since im from pittsburgh and your from cleveland, i should never trust you, lol, j/k.
My Email is Brak710101@comcast.net, thx in advance.

The CSX (ex B&O) line that runs past the Whemco building and along Streets Run Road goes from Glenwood yard to Washington, Pa. It used to continue on to Wheeling WVa. This line was leased to the Allegheny Valley Railroad in December 2003. The track work is probably being done to reconnect the spur track to the Whemco building which is used to galvanize sheet steel. The connection was torn out by a derailment in the 1980’s when vandals lined the switch and a train ran into the spur and over the derail.

WHAT!!! is there any info on this derailment, my dad gave me a locomotive platenumber i have hung on my wall that he found near there. i thought it was trackside trash, but it may be from that derailment… is there any info at all? where did you hear this?

I have some pictures of it. When I get a chance I"ll dig them out and see if I can find a date.

I found some pictures but they are not dated. I think it was in the late 70’s or early 80’s. The engines involved were 6507, 6461, 6965,4806, & 5945. The first three ended up zig-zagged with the nose of 6507 in the F W Scott building. Your plate may have been knocked off one of them. The other two units remained in line with the track. You may be able to track the numbers on the plate back to a unit number. The engineer on the train was George Eckert. Most engineers brought trains down the Streets Run hill at 10 mph because of restrictions on hi cube covered hoppers. At the time they had to be run below 11 or above 24 mph in this area because they would rock too much on the jointed rail. Because of a 20 mph curve part way down the hill you could not run at 25. George would fudge these limits and usually had no problems but when he came around the curve at the higher speed there was no chance to stop at the misaligned switch.
