…just curious if anyone has done this. The modern whistle tenders generally tend to have a little better operation w/ a little less noise than the old ones. If so, a rough est on costs and perhaps part#s would help. Thanks
I put a new air whistle in an pw tender. I Don’t have part numbers but essentially I parted out a newer tender. You can get these for around $30.
Thanks
It would seem to me this might be a missed opportunity on the part of parts suppliers of repro parts etc… to offer some sort of ‘kit’ w/ a replacement modern setup…
I’ve carefully rebuilt one of my PW whistles and managed to quiet things down a bit with cleaning, lube, new bushings but it still makes a fair bit of ‘growl’ compared to a new/modern Lionel whistle tender. I’ve got a couple other PW tenders that still sound bad (haven’t rebuilt them yet). Just thought I’d check out the options.
Can you provide any tips on a tune up for a 6654w? It sounds like you’ve been there before. In particular, how to the working parts and what to do then. Thanks.
