I have been reading how some people want to bring the BigBoy back to life. Another feller wants to make a bigger engine than the BigBoy. These are all good ideas and could be done.
My idea is to build a brand new steam engine modeled after a 4-8-4 Northern using completely new type of fuel like propane or methanol to heat the water. Completely computerize the machine and use modern composit metals to build it. I realize this would be expensive. However, it is my belief that if steam technology would have continued it would have eventually been computerized.
Has anybody every had this idea before?
seems I read a story in MR about a guy who ran steam in the modern era with coal and computerized tecnology, ,was a few years ago, maybe one of the MR guys can help, was certainly a good way to run steam with todays vehicles
The CPR Empress was touring Canad a just a couple weeks ago, at 1930s steam 4-6-4 Hudson H1b, fully restored and converted to oil burning. I took about 100 picture when it was in town. Even got a shot on the cab and one of the passanger cars[8D]
I think it was $3,000,000 to restore it.
Trainwreck, I think you’re referring to the ACE 3000 engine that was in MR and Trains years ago.
