anyone familiar with the Monongahela railway, I have a question for you. I’m doing a freelanced GP40 unit in the “Super seven” scheme, and cannot find a suitable gray for it. Anyone have any help? Thanks
Here’s a link to a photo so anyone curious about the paint color can see what it’s about:

If I had to take a stab at a beginning point for a color choice I think I’d go for SP Lark Dark Gray:
Maybe U.P. Harbor Mist Gray would be a good contender, too?
The final solution is to get several shades and shoot a test piece and compare that to photos and use what looks pleasing to you in your layout’s lighting conditions.
Are you using an airbrush or are you looking for a commercial rattle-can?
Krylon has a “Machinery Light Gray” that might get you in the ballpark.
Perhaps others have some better suggestions,
Good Luck, Ed
I think I’m going to go with a harbor mist to start. My club was given a set of MGA microscale decals, and they usually say what color to use on the sheet. I’ll keep you guys updated.
Looking at this photo,
I wonder if Erie-Lackawanna gray might not be a good color match? Do a test shot and add white or black as necessary. As I understand it the Mon gray is the same gray used for a majority of the GE lease locomotives.
Be sure to post some photos of your finished project, Ed
EL GRAY
You’re saying you DID go with the E-L gray? Looks good — but she needs a run through the wash-rack!
