What railroad is it that runs parallel to I-90 in Montana?
In eastern Montana, it is the BNSF, and west of Huntley it is Montana Rail Link. Both parts were Northern Pacific before 1970.
Thanks much. That’s exactly what I was looking for!!
Actually the eastern part along I-90 in Montana is ex-CB&Q. East of Huntley where it was ex-NP is I-94.
CB&Q?! I had no idea they ran that far northwest… Did they go to the Pacific before the BN?
Right around the time GN and NP bought 'em… No, they never actually reached the Pacific, they connected to the “Northerns” in Montana.
After living up there in Bozeman for a short time, I spent a lot of hours on the I-90 Chasing trains. MRL has those tracks but BNSF runs them by using MRL’s crew to “Bridge” the route through Montana.
