With gasoline taxes (GST/PST/QST/MST), second only to Vancouver, at 38.2%, Montreal can afford it. Taxes, in Montreal (some go to transit) equal C$144.6 / US gallon! Alberta, with only Federal and Provincial excise taxes, comes in at C$0.757 /US dollar. Exorbitant, methinks! Diesel taxes are remarkably lower. My ‘ancestral province’, Nova Scotia loves taxes, at C$1.109 / gallon. Of course, our US$ will buy C$1.25 today, but… Ain’t no free lunch (or healthcare) in “Oh, Canada!”. Source: Wikipedia and Gasbuddy. BTW: Gas taxes in New Jersey = $0.329 / gallon. Je me sauviens!
