Mookie's Musings

Had two great mornings Sat & Sun watching trains - just after daybreak.
BNSF is busy, busy - coal and freight.

Saw a NS #8707 on run through. Saw a complete UP freight train. They were headed out east, so figure they were going to switch some of the industrial places that they normally do. Not sure why they weren’t using their own tracks, but could be because of construction. And why not, the rest of the town is in major grid-lock due to street “renovation”. UP engines were 3025 and 6282 (an SD 40 and SD60) and an LTEX SD 40 right between them.

Also saw a CN Dash 9, #2583 on a freight headed south.

During a break in the watching, took out my Tonka toys and did some tidying up of the right-of-way. Used my MOW men, wound them up and boy did they look real! Did some crane work loading old rail into a roll-off, used a front-end loader to move some of those rails into the roll-off, and then used the loader to smooth out some dirt and ballast that was left over. Didn’t get all the ties picked up, but will try to do that this week.

Talk about divided attention - watching a coal or freight train coming at me and MOW working just to the right of me. Sitting in the shade of a building, enjoying the breeze and watching my favorite live action program!

Dwarfs are not coming back and I saw another yellow thingie and smiled!

(For the benefit of the newbies - yellow thingies hang off the side of the locomotive, not too high off the ground and are normally painted bright yellow.)

Now you figure out the rest! [}:)]

'Til next time - Reporterette/Foamerette Mookie

Gee, Sis, our parents never bought me any Tonka stuff!

Glad to hear that they (with you supervising, of course!) are cleaning up the area. I hope the signals start working better there once they’ve left.

Enjoy your week of freedom. My vacation starts today, but it’ll be a couple of days yet before I’m out of computer range.

I sure wish I could see some BNSF trains around here!
BNSFrailfan.

…Jen, just for the sake of doing so I’ll keep an eye peeled for the 8707 NS engine that you speak of and see if it might pass through here in near future. We have NS leaving Muncie in 3 different directions and this time of year and forward we get major amounts of grain laden trains coming through from the west.
And the Tonka toys “activity” just about parallels precisely what NS just did a month or so back in track activity here in the Muncie area…
Our Monday is starting hot and humid…About 90 today and humid…! Guess that’s what we should have this time of year. [8D]

Mookie
more of your green bnsfs came to Ohio for a visit. will keep you posted.Matt says “trucks vrooom vroom!”.

You aren’t THAT far from Lincoln. Unless you are like I usually am - transportation is a bite…

We had a CSX thru here, too, but was too far away to get a #. Also something Maroon in the yards, but some yea-hoo was in my way and I couldn’t see it! Never did get all that close.

Did you notice my greens are fading quiet badly?

Also, forgot to mention - AMTRAK went through again about 9:15 am - just about 4 hours late - but hey, I like the later schedule - something new to watch!

Westbound or eastbound? [schedule not handy]

Ya Ill guess your wright! From Blair to lincoln…about mabe 75 miles, But at least it would be worth the trip I guess. By the way mookie, where is a good spot to catch a lot of trains “IN” Lincoln? Mostly BNSF.
BNSFrailfan.[8D]

Hopefully Mookie won’t mind if I step in and answer.
The morning Amtrak train through Lincoln and Omaha is eastbound.

You know… I think I’ll have my parents get me some Tonka toys for the next time we go train watching!

eastbound - going up to Omaha - due in here around 5 am.

1st and J street is my favorite. Anywhere in the area. Can even park under the bridge on the south side of the tracks (a bypass bridge) in the shade during the heat.
6 tracks right at 1st and J and you will see a lot of action! And if you see a female sitting in a Millie (Buick Century) say Hi and tell her you are Mr. Love. This offer for weekend mornings only. Otherwise, be careful who you say that to…[;)]

Willy - I read and answer before I read all the postings - it is just my exuberance that someone is actually talking to me - ergo the double answer. Sorry.

However, there should be a reward for all the track work they have done in this area - getting to supervise the Tonkas! And just figure that the rest of the forum only has models to work with - while WE have the real things going by and we can pretend we are moving them. Ah! Young minds!

Mookie

Ill take your word for it [:D]!
[bow]BNSF[bow].

Mookie there is a railfan club in lincoln that the club has every month at a library in lincoln, do you go to it? I was just wondering. Ill be in lincoln next week.
BNSFrailfan.

Mookie is in only one club - the I Love The Driver Fan Club.

I am not up late enough to hardly watch the evening news, let alone go to a club meeting. No matter how good it is, I would be the one in the corner sound asleep.

But if you are in Lincoln on a weekend morning - check out 1st and J and wave!
