Moorman: Mergers ‘don’t make sense at this time’
Changes to N&W, and PRR were made at the direction of Congressional committees, in preparation to the planned marriage of NYC/PRR, and subsequently B&O/C&O. When Uncle Sam plans a marriage it does not work. Bankruptcy results as it did = CR. Which was then split into CSXT & NS. If UP and NS said now is the NOT the time for mergers it will not happen now. When government gets out of business, and puts the business on a level keel, by not changing the playing field, i.e. government regulations concerning employees etc. then and only then will the Railroads, the real job creators, make things happen. Yes jobs will be lost to a degree but new jobs will be created, good paying jobs with benefits. KEY…Get out of Private Business Uncle Sam.

Now if the eastern and western “big four” could just work out some alternate exchange points to alleviate the Chicago mess, e.g. the KCS “Meridian speedway”.
