Tom - don’t take it personally. It’s just that some of us are careful about the personal information we put out for anyone to see. The internet is wealth of resources, but also equally a dangerous place were people maliciously harvest information from these types of forums for spam and other questionable endeavors. I don’t put my email address out here for that reason. I get enough Spam as it is.
You also don’t really know who you might be interacting with on forums like this. For the most part I think we’re all model railroaders, but you just can’t be sure. I like to joke that there could be a member or two here that are really inmates in a mental institution that are allowed to use the computer from time to time. The sad part is that it could be true (or something like it), so I think it’s best to be careful.
Did any of you fellas get that email in blue font from that desparate widow in Israel wanting to divest herself of her late husband’s considerable fortune…and you just happened to be on her list of nice people to whom she would grant it?
Gawrsh, there’s such nice people who can get your information anywhere they want, and I thought she deserved a prompt reply to her request for a couple of thousand dollars of good-will to an account in Swaziland. I hope the check gets through to her so that I can become a millionaire. [:D]
A couple of years ago, I had a beautiful African princess with over 50 million dollars that was ready to marry me sight-unseen, but would first require my bank account number to deposit her money in before coming to the US…
The sad thing is, there are actually people out there that fall for such scams - especially the elderly because a lot of them are isolated and out of touch with the modern world, and still think you can trust people. (I didn’t know there was a time when you could trust them…)
You’re forgetting that the US government’s jurisdiction is limited to US territory only (as much as they like to think otherwise). Even if they passed a law banning spyware, there would be nothing stopping someone in Europe, Asia or elsewhere from using it.
Anti-spyware laws, like anti-spam laws, while they sound like a good idea, really are un-enforcable.
[#ditto][#ditto][#ditto][#ditto]
90% of all scams come out of Africa, the Middle East and Russia. Now the UN wants the US to give control of the internet to them because we’re not being fair to rest of the world. Koffee Annon can bite my shiney metal *ss!!!
PS-My bio’s filled out. (I ain’t got nothin nobody would want)
Computers are pretty powerful. All you need is someone’s name, and you can look um up online, and go burn their house down. I’m real careful about that kinda stuff.
Sorry I messed that response up. But chateauricher is right about spyware, spam and other stuff coming from foreign places thats why there is still so much ilegal porn out there it all comes from servers in countries that its legal.
I guess people miss read what i was getting to. It would be nice to some of you more open tothe hobby train building or model railroading in your Bio’s thats all.
Forgive them Tom for they no not what they do !!! You have dropped into the den of evil, more psyhco’s here than you can shake a stick at, then there are the crazy folks. Model railroading is diverse, any crazy man with track is a railroader.
