Their newest release in the “Ashland Steel” series, the updated Coke Ovens kit is awesome, so was the Coke Retort that came out a few years ago. Only problem is I already bought “THE WORKS” in 1996 or whatever year it came out.
I have the original Coke Oven kit and all I want them to do (Walthers) is release a limited run of the Larry and Quench cars so I can update my model.
Keep in mind that I also have all the other kits, including the Rolling Mill and I have ordered the Blower House, Piping and New Mill.
Yes I have e-mailed them and gotten a canned answer already.
I’ll just continue scratching the things—my layout is an odd size anyhoooooo------[:-^]
I’ve seen a few people complain that the oven-top “larry” car doesn’t match any known prototypes, anyway.
But I agree it seems silly that they wouldn’t have the assembly line spew out a few extras for us original buyers…
Rule of business: Sell the more profitable kits early on, that way the enthusiast and early adopters are more likely to buy the more expensive kit if they think upgrades/cheaper versions aren’t available down the road. Keep mum about future releases.
I’ve seen it happen all the time with movie projectors, TV’s, digital cameras, computers, so on and so forth.
Kinda like Microsoft touting Vista while Windows 7 is in beta testing.
