More E8s and GP40Ps from July 1978

Okay, I went a little scanning nutty, and here are some more shots from that July day in 1978 in South Amboy and Matawan NJ.

First image is of two GP40Ps pulling a mix of flute-sided cars along the Raritan Bay. I found another picture of this location from someone else and he called it Morgan. Anyone know if that is correct?

Second image is of the engine change between GG1 and an NJDOT/CR/PC combo of E8s.

Third and final image is of another GP40P pulled train, this one going through Matawan. As much as we all couldn’t believe that those old GG1s were still going back then, this GP40P is still going today.

Thanks for looking and corrections are welcome.

Interesting connections across the years, especially with the GG-1 shot. Granted, that electric was looking pretty long in the tooth, but nonetheless, what a machine!

Thanks for digging into that big box-o-slides for us again.

Many thanks for the pictures from 1978. It caused me to look again at my albums from 1982 when I took an extended road trip to the Northeast and took a lot of the same pictures from slightly different locations. On that same road trip, I also spent an entire day at Jamaica where I saw such things as power cars rebuilt from FA-1’s (and an F9A) and MP15AC’s pulling passenger trains.
