The same could be the for the obs on the 1956 “Denver Zephyr”.

How was the EL Lake Cities route diffrent from the Phobe Snow? Did they use the same equipment? also as far as i know the Phobe Snow equipment spent its last days as a commuter train from Cleveland to Youngstown and then ended up in Metro-North hands as a buisness train.

I think beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The dz OBS and pheobe snow are cool and functional cars and still with us today.

I saw Silver Solarium, Silver Rapids and Silver Lariat on the rear of Amtrak #5 last Friday and Saturday. When we stopped in Glenwood Springs, many passengers took pictures of the three. Your eye and mine are alike. (Of course, the lunchbox markers were quite evident on Silver Solarium–and David P. Morgan did not really like them.) I was able to get a picture of the dome on Silver Lariat through the rear door of my car (it was right behind my car).

The Lake Cities ran over the former Lackawwana between Hoboken and Binghamton, and over the former Erie between Binghamton and Chicago. As to equipment, the E-L train may have used the same coaches as the Lackawanna train used, but the Phoebe Snow did not carry sleepers, which the Lake Cities did.

The Erie-Lackawanna Phoebe Snow had sleepers. I rode in them.

Square End Observation cars - especially when not equipped with a diaphram were fitting tail cars for they trains the served. I had many miles of watching the countryside pass on the Napanee and Wawasee on the B&O’s Capitol Limited.
