More initials

Not strictly railroad, but more bad news for those of us who don’t care for monikers like BNSF and CSX:

The Dec. 17 Wall Street Journal says that effective immediately Chrysler Group will be known as FCA US. The FCA comes from international parent (since 2011) Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

The Chrysler name goes back to 1925, says the Journal.

I think it stands for “Find Convenient Acronym”, which is what you do when you mistakenly believe you need a new name, but don’t have the imagination to come up with a real one.

This trend has been going on for decades now. Initials and acronyms for corporate names really began to take off in the 1960’s with the beginnings of diversification and holding companies.

I think it has more t o do with the stock symbol then monikers.
