Here’s my solution to adding more trains to my limited space:
Looks very nice and busy but derailments must hurt!

It’s actually very interesting. Do you have more pictures or details?
Is that a track going through the wall ?
George
Nice layouts very interesting . When I get back to work on mine (lack of supplies at the moment to be corrected soon.) I’ll take some pics to show you what I’am doing in a 7’ X8’ room that also only place for desk and computor and storage of extra items. (storage is going to be roomed soon also called build a small shed out side lol)
Glad You decied to post some more on this forum welcome and come join us in the coffee shop would be glad to have you.
Yes, 5 of the tracks go into another (parts storage) room of the basement, which allows larger radius curves. The two highest levels are O72, the other 6 lines are O42.
Each track has a long siding for storing an entire train. Track 3 and level 2 have four each. This allows me to have 18 trains on tracks and run 8 at a time…plus a trolley.
The idea is to play with trains. Scenery takes up valuable track real estate.
wow… are you related to stan roy? lol Thats a great use of space. Are you loops run by relays so you can have trains alternate on the same loop?
That is really cool! [:D]
Seeing that many trains on that many different levels kind of reminds me of the old cartoon, The Jetson’s.
Regards,
John
I’m not sure, but you may have a record for the number of trains per square foot in a train room when you count the wall shelves.
Very interesting layout.
Wow, now that’s cool. How many locomotives do you have?
Keep up the great work! [8D]
[bow] NOW, that’s what I call “playing”! PS. I couldn’t make it out…what track are you using? Thanks for sharing.
3rdRailer…does your local train store buy their inventory from you or the other way around? I’ve got a couple of Dobermans and volunteer to come over and guard your trains while you are out.
Jack.
Well let’s see…at last count, I had 52 engines and 77 cars. This information is carefully guarded at home. (You remember this old thing (new steamer), don’t you honey…the BLACK one I showed you last year!) Anyway, the number varies since I sell/trade them off all the time. I like Williams diesels (having given up on brass Hudsons) if for no other reasons than their price and reliability but mostly, I have MTH Premier diesels and Railking steam. Only the very-well healed, the insane or those that are willing to live on crackers and water can afford new Premier steamers. (I suspect that new Lionel steam engines are mostly owned by neurosurgeons.)
“Improving” engines and rolling stock can be a lot of fun. Since I’m not a collector and don’t really give a damn about resale value, nearly everything I own is fair game for a facelift. It’s fun, rewarding and keeps me out of bars at night.
I run the trains with simple blocks…put one on a siding and crank up the other one. Most of the time, I have the sound and the smoke turned off…who wouldn’t!
Would you please post more photos of the train around the wall
thank you
Rich
There’s really nothing more to show you that can’t be seen in the first photo of this thread. It’s a simple O72 track that goes along the wall near the ceiling, at the same level as the door molding. The trackbed is just 3/4" plywood wut at the same width of the cork which is held on with contact cement. The track is Lionel O and is fed electricity with 3 lock-ons. It’s all held up with white metal brackets…simple really.
