It looks like the list of most active users is messed up also. I see Selector has only 253 posts,For me 6, & I don`t see spacemouse or cacole among others on the list. Please excuse this posts if it is posted elsewhere!
Apparently the software is running through all the old posts, and it will take some time to tally them all up and make them available again archivally.
Personally, I’d be tickled to have my post count show something more rational. [(-D]

Well, Selector is now showing 16,000-odd, so I guess that part caught up.
My own count (about half of Selectors) appears accurate (enough.) And, when I go to my forum discussions and select ‘all’ they come up - clear back to the dark ages. HOWEVER, when I try to use the search function, it appears that the cross-links have only worked their way back to March or so. Some things I KNOW are there return a “sorry” statement.
Oh, well. A couple of years ago it took the system a couple of months to re-connect the archives.

And post count is such a big deal because … ?

Well, in my case, it helps me keep track of how many times I’ve put my foot in my mouth, LOL![:$]

It appears to have my post count right. It should catch up on the others soon enough. And yes, I do have a habit of sometimes putting my foot in my mouth. Sometimes both feet!
Before the change, the most-active-users list was based on something like the number of posts made in the last 24 hours. Now it is cumulative since day one. I thought the old-style list was more informative. Now it is the same people all the time.

Yeah, why?
I believe the post count counts all your posts in ALL the Kalmbach forums and rolls it all into one number. That’s why some people have a very high number.
There’s 2 different numbers they should show.
-
Most Active. IMO should be the people who are seen most in a period of time, say last month. You can have someone with 10,000 posts that hasn’t posted in a while, yet can show as one of the most active.

Most posts. Just what it says. Many don’t see the value in showing it but some do, and the forum is recognizing it. If you’re new to the forums and you get a response from someone with 15,000 posts, chances are that they know what they are talking about, or have seen the topic dozens of times and know the most common response, which is most likely to be correct. On the other hand if the person has 100 posts, they may actually know much more about the topic but it’s not as likely they have the right answer. Yes, they have have a bunch of posts that are simply encouragement or keep a good thread running, but the fact is that they are reading it and probably have the knowledge from that same thread.
I don’t believe high post counts makes someone more knowledgeable on any given subject. You have to be a member on all forums I belong to,You have to sign in to post, the host site keeps track of your posts. I don’t know why but they do. A Poster with 3 posts may be more more knowledgeable then the guy with 10,000. How many posts are socializing in “barns and diners”, posting pictures or even asking their own questions, along with one word replies and bumps? When I ask questions here on trains or else where on gardening, I always read all of them to see if they all follow in the same theme.
BTW, CTValley, which one are you? mh
It doesn’t mean that the person is more Knowlegable, but it does indicate activity in the forums which is exposure to more topics. A person who never posts and reads the same forums, or a person who is new to the forums that has been in the hobby for awhile might be as knowlegable or more so, but to the person looking for info, the post count is just a possible indicator.
On the other hand there are those who frequent the posts for social reasons, and some will post a bump if getting close to a mile stone in post count, but probably not otherwise. Also if it is a carrot, the forums benefit from advertisement and each time someone watches a post, revenue is generated.
Sometimes I fool people, but mostly I’m just a fool. [:D]
Or they’re just full of hot air and like to talk. Sometimes the most verbal guys can really be the most useless.
If a guy has 15000 posts, he probably has no actual modelling experience because he spends all his time posting on every thread that there is. There’s no possible way he’s an expert on EVERYTHING, although if he’s that involved online hopefully he’s at least learned a few things from others who are experts on their particular subjects.
True, it doesn’t mean that the person knows everything but at the same time it’s an indication that they have a better chance of knowing.
For instance, as a third person if you asked a question and 3 people answered, Selector, Jeffrey Wimberly, or your screen name, who’s advice would you be more likely to listen to? Chances are most would default to the order I posted, and would be right most times.
I wouldn’t assume that someone posting a lot doesn’t spend time modeling. Sometimes it’s because the computer is right next to the layout and sometimes the poster is a Mod or has simply been around longer.
I am not going to be counting my posts!![:^)] That would be ridiculous!!
Can you imagine
This not an important issue. It’s all about Male Ego.

Post counts don’t mean that much to me.
As someone pointed out during the last update {I think it was then} the person who has 100 posts may be an expert model RR with 50 years of experience just not frequent the forum, but the person with 10,000 may just be a noobie with a lot of questions or “cool pic!” comments behind them.
It only tells me how often someone proliferates on the forum. That can be valuable info I guess if I want to know how often someone is here on the site.
Not all posts have to be loaded down with an encyclopedia of information on MRRing. Most everyone’s posts are posts of valuable personal experience with some "cool Pic!"s thrown in to validate someone else’s work in MMRing. And to paraphase Martha Stewart “That’s a GOOD thing!”.
Or, they may spend a lot of their forum time on “social” threads. That can rack up a post count.
