Most Northern point on the Western Pacific?

Just trying to satisfy my curiosity. I came across an (old) photo of track taken outside of Irrigon, Oregon. Irrigon sits very close to the Columbia River in northern Oregon between Pendleton and The Dalles. The caption of the photo says “Western Pacific” track. Nothing I have indicates that the WP had trackage that far north. Maybe some WP fans can enlighten me. Thanks

Don’t have an explanation. Bieber CA (junction with Great Northern) was the northmost point on the WP

I guess it is just a mistake Miss Lange made when captioning the photo? I believe the track in the photo is present day’s Union Pacific.

according to my 1912 atlas the tracks in question would be the O.W.RR oregon western railroad co. also acording to atlas the northern most point on the W.P. was just west of wells nevada above the 41 st latitude.

Dschmidt & GM Pullman: Yes, it is that photo and I agree about the mislabelling. I just wanted to be sure. I was fairly certain the track was “big yellow”. BTW, GM Pullman you have by far the best avatar on the forum!!

I think in that time period, it would be the Oregon-Washington Railroad and Navigation Company, a UP subsidiary.

your right Jeff it has O.W.RR. & N.C. in book but couldn’t find it in railroad reporting marks lists i have so i went with O.W. RR.

OK, now that we’ve resolved that…what was the most Western point on the Northern Pacific??
