Well just for you Crandell I changed the room the layout was going to be in to a slightly bigger one. This enabled me to add the servicing facility you recomended (although the layout of the facility may change a little as I decide on buildings). and also allowed me to add a little more interest on the higher level without cramping the space too much.
I also tweaked a few other things but not much.
Maybe tomorrow I can cut some wood, although I may just pull out some locos, setup some track on the hardwood floor in the main room and pretend I’m 7 again for a few hours,
1 square = 1’ x 1’ … Height measurements are floor to railhead
Room Size = 12 x 12 + 4 x 2 Section
Black Track 50" high
Red Track 54" high
Orange Track 40" high undertable staging
Blue Track connects levels(Green track climbs through
tunnel to 52" then declines back to 50" after switch.
Max Grade 2.75%
I tried to get the layout pics to enlarge but it’s not working.
Ok, it works now and it’s Smeg’n Awsome!
One thing I’m not clear on is the measurements of 50" and 54". Is that the hight from the floor to the top of the rail head or floor to bottom of the levels? I’m wondering how much space is there between the rail head on the red level and the bottom of the black level.
It looks super, Karl. It will be a substantial undertaking, as you know, but you will have oodles of fun and learning on this one. I wish I could drop by as you begin to build the Kinsol.
I am happy that you added the service facility. When you want a diversion from running trains or switching, you just trundle a tired loco onto the bridge, rotate the bridge to an empty bay track, and run the loco in for a bit of TLC. Power it down, and take another one out for a spin. With all of your parking and staging, etc, you will be able to leave a large number of items on the layout without continually having to pick them up to store them elsewhere. Less handling = a good thing.
I am also very happy that you got that nice sweeping curve in on the upper right on the second level. That will be a real eye-pleaser when a long train labours around it. If that isn’t the plan already, a gentle grade (1%) would be super for maximum effect as the train rises toward the viewer along that sweeping curve.
Well done!!
I do hope someone else drops in to comment. There may be other things that could stand a tweek.
Thank you my friend for the positive and encouraging reply. That “long, sweeping curve on the upper right” is actually the ‘Kinsol Trestle’ … 7’ of sweeping timber curve tightening at the end… the trestle essentially runs from switch to switch with a small lead-in (about an inch or two) on either end…and yes I am hoping it will be an eye-pleaser.
Thanks again, hows the basement coming??? almost ready for trains yet?
Third mudding done, sanding, priming, and two top coats to do, plus a drop ceiling. Two weeks to go, maybe? Flooring guy is 30 mins late to do a measuring as I type (he phoned to let me know, so it’s okay).
Once our lighting and sockets are all done, I can get to work. If I am organized, and have my turnouts built, I could be running trains by end-Apr.
BTW, my encouragement was well greased by a super plan. You deserved it, IMHO.[tup]
