I agree that these are superb models, but they have two deficiencies. First, they cannot use a standard tsunami decoder, as the lighting system draws 250mA, which is more than the 100mA output on a tsunami can handle, which results in blown outputs. Secondly, the cab deck plate does not swing up far enough to allow the tender to couple. The new owner has to do some surgery on some pretty delicate components to avoid the deck plate interfering with the operation of the engine. Please MMI, make the engines be a true plug and play, and please make sure that there is not a mixture of 12volt and 1.5volt bulbs on the engine. Had the engine been all 1.5v bulbs, with the markers being one circuit, the number boards being another, and the headlight on a separate circuit, all would be under 100mA draw, separately controllable functions. As the engine comes out of the box, the existing wiring must be stripped out for DCC operation, a needless aggravation.
Re Brian Hume’s comment on the use of a “standard” [sic] Tsunami decoder: “…the lighting system draws 250mA, which is more than the 100 mA …a Tsunami can handle.”
Current data sheets from SoundTraxx indicate the Tsunami 1000 has an output of 1,000 mA (1 A), and the Tsunami 750 has an output of 750 mA.

i just seen the new ho on30 i love the layout on it when i was a kid i love train now iam in my 50’s i still love the trains do show how the dcc box com in play
I wired my headlights, markers and number boards to work off track power and not the decoder. I attached the backup light to the decoder. All is well, but I can’t turn off the front end, but I never do anyway.
