Mounting Caboose Ground Throws on Foam

Can Caboose Industries ground throws be mounted on WS roadbed and extruded foam using latex caulk? I recently heard someone say that the throw and the point area of the switch need to have wood under them, not foam. Perhaps, I only need to be concerned with what is under the throw? Rather than raising the throw to the height of the switch with WS roadbed, maybe I should use a small piece of wood just under that?

Or you can do what the real railroads did, put longer ties for the area under the throw.

I cut small pieces of wood, scribed lines to simulate boards, stained and placed them in the extruded foam where needed with caulk. I then fastened the Caboose throws to the wood platforms with small screws. It looks nice and gave me the chance to adjust as I installed.
