I’m having problems with trying to mount the shell of my GP18 (HO scale) to it’s frame. For some reason, I can’t get the shell over the motor and is a VERY tight fit. I’m afraid if I put too much pressure on the shell I’ll break it in half. I’m guessing that either the shell or frame is warped. It’s a brand new model and has only been out of the box once. If anyone has any ideas on what I should do, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

I have a Proto 2000 GP-18 that was released in 1993. It’s not new as in new release. With mine, the shell is a very tight fit to the body. Mine has these black “moveable” vent covers that need to be pushed out as far away from the shell as they will move for the shell to slide down over the engine.
I had to send mine back to lifelike several times now for repairs. At one time, they told me that they could now repair my model and offered me one of their “new” GP-18’s as an exchange.
I’m not sure if you have a new or old locomotive, so I’m not sure if my advise will help or juct confuse you.
My GP-18 is from the new release. I’ll give it a shot with pushing out the vent covers and see what happens. Thank you for the advice!!
