Mounting Switch Machines... does it have to be on plywood

This may sound like a dumb questions, but since I am a newbee and this is my first real layout other then a 4X8 plywood with a single loop… For the Tortouise switch machines, when mouting them, if you did not use any plywood, does the pink/blue foam sport them or do you have to put undermount them to plywood, and if so is 1/4 inch ok or does it have to be 3/8 inch or greater?

I am trying to finalize my benchwork, right now I am planning on a open grid with 1x3’s with one side mounted to the wall and then other supported by legs. Then placing 1/4 plywood with 1/2 foam and the track on 1/4 cork road bed… I am locked in to the open grid by my wife because I can’t use L-Grider which would require removing 80+ feet of double chair rail from the walls.

Just go to the bottom of the page and in the SEARCH box, type in, Mounting Tortoise Switch Machines and then hit Search. You will get a number of threads on the subject that has been covered previously. Something there should help you out. [:-^]
