Looking for some help here. I have a staging yeard area that I really don’t want to mount the tortise machines under. What have others done in order to mount the tortise on top and what type of linkage did you use. If anyone has pics or a website to show an illustration, that would be greatly appreciated. MR had an article a few months back on mounting tortoises above the table…it seems that you will need another part made by tortoise that is an extra arm which converts the linkage into a horizonal movement instead of a vertical one…check the issues from this year and the article should be there in one of them…Chuck
Per the article in MR, all you really need is a strip of brass to act as a lever. This is attached to the moving part of the Tortoise, and the lower end pivots in a slot cut in the table top. The sliding fulcrum on the Tortoise is removed. Somewhat above the ‘loose’ end of your brass strip you drill a hole to attach a wire which connects to the turnout throwbar. Simple and easy.
