I got the Virginian a few years back, runs good but sounds like all the rest of MTH generic sound system. Also I had to call MTH to get the drive gear for the tender part. Quality control made a mistake there.

Laz: If you get the time check out the demo video on the link I provided. The whistle is controlled by the thumbwheel on the remote and sounds pretty cool. I bet money CTT and OGR will be doing a review on it. [:)]
Great looking engine. I just wish they would make a no frills version that was not as expensive.
DEP,
Thanks I watched video and yes it does sound awesome. I like what they did with the smoking tender, that looks great. Mine doesn’t have that and wish it did. Cool features and whistle. JILL is a great looking hostess too[;)][:O][:I]!

Dep, It looks like you are now an Erie fan as well as a Pennsy, NYC and CNJ fan. [swg]
Nice! but i dont see the big boy moving over just yet, its still about 20% larger than the triplex. But its great to see something like this out there.
I was a bit disappointed to see that the freight set did not come with 640 50 ton cars, but oh well, LOL
John: LOL…not quite. The Pennsy S2 turbine is still the ultimate steamer for me [tup]
Very big fan of the Pennsy S-2. The scale one is just so massive looking. My uncle got one the first year Lionel made it. I think it ran on 0-72 and he did’nt have a 0-72 layout so we just stared at it and ran it a couple of times in a staight line of track about 20ft long. Wish I could find one now at a resonable price.
More like move over Big Boy…here comes the Alleghany!!![^]
I’ve got both the Lionel scale S2s. THe first one had a wire tether to the tender. The second one was wireless. Haven’t got to run them yet. Also got two of the large (not scale) MTH S2 turbines. They’ll run on 042 curves. Wish MTH would make a scale S2. Actually, the price of the Lionel scale versions have been coming down quite a bit. I saw one go for $650 on Epay. I almost grabbed a 3rd Rail S2 turbine for $695 brand new. It’s still availabe. Not sure what control syustem it has on it. May be TMCC.
