Moving my layout a mile away - part II...

For those of you that recall my post from last week, I’m pleased to report that my house has sold, and I’ll be relocating to my mom’s for a while, which is about a mile away. A friend and I moved my layout yesterday evening, and it came through with an easy to repair minor crack across the base of the mountain.
I can now pay off all of my bills, save my credit and start all over again at age 42…
The new owner said he loves the bomb shelter and intends on maintaining it just as I have.

Just thought you might like the update.

Great news, TL.

We had a topic many weeks back about the effect a layout has on the value of a home. Many posters stated that it was a definite detractor, and that the realtors would universally ask the homeowner to remove it. That is most likely true, but wouldn’t it be great if a prospective buyer lusted after your layout, and left you with the chance to rebuild at the new location? [:P]

Hey selector. How’s things on your end of the block ?.

Actually, the new owner said that he liked my layout, but that he didn’t have time for such things. He said he prefers to play golf and tennis. Oh well. He and his wife will fit right in with the rest of the “folks” in that subdivision. They should rename it Status Symbol Village because that’s all most of the people there care about. Even if I could, I wouldn’t ever want to live in a place like that among those type of people again. They make me sick!.

Mark,

Now is that a REAL mile, or an HO mile? 60-1/2’ doesn’t seem like all that far to move a llayout…[:P]

Tom

Tracklayer i hope you will be happy at your new house. maybe you will have space to build a bigger layout[:D] that guy that didnt have time for model railroading doesnt no what he is missing. Tennis can die as far as im concerned!! well happy model railroading.[^]

Actually Tom, it’s a mile as the crow flies, but just under two miles by the time you drive down the twisting road and all. I can sit on the roof of my mom’s house with my monocular and see the roof of my place through an opening in the tree tops.

Thank you trainfreek92. I’ll probably buy a two bed room mobile home and set it up on the acre next to my mom’s place, so the layout will be moved one more time.

As for the guy that bought my house and frowned on trains. To h— with him. He can’t help the fact that he’s just another rude, stuck up jerk from the city that doesn’t know any other way to be…

Glad all went well for you, tracklayer!

Any plans for the future of your railroad in it’s new location?

Darrell, inquiringly quiet…for now

Hey Quiet Darrell,

Not really. Just thought I’d repair it and put it back like it was for now. I’ve actually been thinking about going to HO, so I may end up selling off all of my N scale engines, rolling stock and scenery items and use the money to get started on that. As a matter of fact, there’s a guy I could call right now that would probably come over tonight and buy everything from me I have to sale, but I’m just not ready to let go yet if you know what I mean… I’ve been an N scaler for 16 years, so it’s going to take me a little time to adjust.

glad for ya! I used to live in Houston, within the Tollway, in Piney Point, my big issue was the lack of a basement![:)]
