Hi, I’m soon to be getting a new computer and I’m going to want to “move” my Trains Complete Collection to the new computer. Now, I assume that “moving” the entire program “as is” is not possible (?), but I am OK with re-installing the program on my new machine from the DVDs. However…I have well over 200 favorites stored in the program on my current machine, and I’d really rather not have to search through all 844 magazines and redo all those favorites! (That could take months). Is there any way to copy the favorites from the old computer to the new computer once the program is installed on the new machine?
FWIW, my current computer runs Windows XP and the new one will run Mac OS X.

I networked my old Windows XP machine to my new Windows 8.1 machine as well as my Windows Vista laptop. The 8.1 machine is my primary, except for e-mail. The Vista machine, since it travels with me is the primary e-mail machine.
If the old machine still works there is no real reason to trash it.
I suspect you can network XP & Mac but I don’t know how.
I have no clue where you’re going to buy your new computer, but here in Italy there’s several avenues of approach and I think it’s the same in the US. We bought a stock computer at Euronics, a big outfit based in the UK, and I imagine it’s like Best Buy but without any service. It came with Avira in Italian which sucked big time, but there was no alternative. Not much luck for your problem there. We bought another machine from a small, 3 employee store that does mostly repairs but also has a big contract with a scientific center here in town, so he also custom builds machines for them. We had him build my machine with Windows 7 in English, which is impossible to find here, but in doing so he backed up my old HD onto a dummy he had, then restored it to the new machine. Everything survived intact, including favorites. If you can find an equivalent place where you live, check it out. It’s a lot better than trying to rebuild everything by yourself.
What I’ve been able to find online (Google search) basically says that you can move files (ie iTunes music files) but not whole applications. Also there is no way I’ll be keeping the old XP machine as it is SOOOOO slow that it’s almost unbearable to use at times (esp. with Trains Complete Collection!).
Is there something about the Trains collection files that keep you from simply copying the entire file onto a USB memory storage device and then copying from that device to the new computer?
Not sure if that would work or not…the program takes up about 16 MB of data on my hard drive so obviously getting a large enough USB device would be necessary…I’m going to talk with an Apple specialist and see if they have any ideas. Logically, I know that the information that records your Favorites has to be stored somewhere, in a file or files, the question is where? If I knew that, it would be a simple matter to just copy that file (or files) to the new computer…like with web browser favorites.
