MOW and it's unusual equipment

Severl time we have had discussions about unusual MOW equipment around these FORUMS.

I had started a Thread on the KIROW rail cranes used in the UK and other places in Europe. And recently there was a discussion about some of the equipment Herzog and some of the other Third Party Railroad Maintainance Provider field to resolve specific issues of upkeep for their customers.

While researching another topic I found this site and was intrigued by several of the items listed.

One specifically caugt my eye: A John Deere Gator off road work ATV. There are severl used by farmers in this area and they appear all over for sport and commercial as well as recreational use. The County Sheriff here uses one as a search and rescue vehicle and it is around whenever they do a parade.

Polaris has one as well (The shortline I worked for wished they had asked permission before taking the prototype out on their line to test and take pictures…[B)])

Was this what it resembled? It is amazing that these small vehicles can be equiped with HyRail wheelsets!

This kind of vehicle will drive the ‘Section Car’ [NARCOA] crowd crazy [%-)]… Just think take a trip with NARCOA on one weekend and go deer hunting the next! [wow]

So did I ever tell you about the Roadmaster at Irricana about 1960-64, who had a gun rack on his speeder? [:O] He was a single man who used to shoot pheasant’s when and as required for his supper, without regard to whether it was hunting season or not.

When I go and see collections of speeder’s I always ask the owner’s if any of them have gun racks on theirs, and I haven’t seen one yet. And they don’t believe me when I tell them it did happen once.
