Myself:
I am very interested in MoW am probably going to end up with a disproportante amount. I guess it will be perpetually in repair. However, right now it is almost nonexistant as most of it is a work in progress.
1 C&O “tie loading only” open hopper
1 CSX diffco side dump
1 CSX burro crane and gondola
1 American Crane mounted on a Sou Flat
I am working on:
3 CSX (FGE) toolcars.
several flats used to transport tie gangs
several CSX and NS tie gondolas
an entire tie gang is in the LONG term plan
Right now the only MoW equipment I have is a rotary snowplow/snail set and a side-dump gondola I plan on relettering.
I’ve got all sorts of plans, though. I’ve been meaning to stack some sectional track on a 60’ flat and put a turnout on an 89’ flat. For ballast hoppers I’d like to convert some old cement-service cars by cutting out the roof and applying new chutes like the DME ballast cars.
As a long-term plan, I’d like to make a Loram ditcher, which is what the gon is for. And if that turns out to not be ambitious enough, maybe a railgrinder.
For real pie-in-the-sky stuff I’d like a welded-rail consist, but I’ll probably never have the space.
I to am obsessed with MOW stuff. Never gonna have it all on the rails at the same time. What I would like to do someday is build a line of ribbon rail carrier cars. See how long it takes for that to jump the tracks.
Bowser sells the rail racks for the ribbon rail trains. they are made to attach to their flatcars.
i am slowly working on a MOW train for my SP layout. i am trying to track down SP side dump cars and ballast hoppers. then i need to find pictures of the other equipment/cars they used so i can start on those.
LOL, it seems like everybody I talk to about MoW is interested in a ribbon rail train. Maybe someone will actually do it oneday, and provide instructions.

What do you need pics of? I have a good many shots of equipement on NS and CSX, and I could also probably dig up some good links online.
My only MOW equipment in HO is an Amtrak hopper, and a flatcar, as well as a couple of Athearn tool cars - these are “posed” in suitable locations to suggest activity.
However, my small G scale collection is almost exclusively MOW - I have assorted LGB hoppers, cement mixers, overhead line maintainance (tower) cars, etc, and plan to add to the fleet. Next aquisition will probably be the “cable reel car” they offer to go with the tower car. Longer term plans include another start set (cheap way of getting another loco and one of their cranes, unsure which variant to buy as my LHS has two varieties (blue with loco, crane, bolster flats carrying pipes, or grey with loco, crane, and bolster flats carrying track sections), and one of the MOW electric locos they offer.
Maritime’s MoW roster is a bit ecletic, I guess that makes it kind of prototypical. I have a DIFCO car, a couple of gons, a couple of ore cars, a hopper, a couple of old Tyco flats that I retrucked, an old Bachmann crane that I’ll rework one of these days and an old 50’ auto boxcar. Most of which are in pretty rough shape and need some work. And now I have my rotary plow up and going. I’m currently putting the finishing touches on a F7 AB set that will provide power to the plow and be dedicated to MW service. Hopefully I’ll have them ready for service this week. I just wish I had a place for them to be in service…
Most of my MOW fleet are cars that I bought as a kid not realizing that they were from a different era that I am modeling. Currently it consists of the following.
1 Rotary snow plow
2 200 ton cranes
2 crane tenders
2 boxcars
2 Steam-to-Diesel era boxcars
3 Steam-to-Diesel era flatcars (1 50’, 2 40’)
2 Steam-to-Diesel era covered hoppers
1 Ballast hopper
I plan to add some more flatcars, gondolas, and hopper cars.
I have some MOW stuff as well:
1 rotary snowplow
1 snowplow mounted on gon
2 200 ton cranes
1 walthers selfpropelled crane
2 crane tenders
1 almost complete IHC MOW consist;: derrick, flatcar, sleeper, toolcar, tankcar, blacksmith, rail&tie car
3-4 Athearn RPO tool cars
3 athearn Boxcars
1 walthers work train set #1: 2 bunkcars, kitchencar, engineering car, outside braced boxcar and tank car
and I am always looking for some more.
Right now Im into the MOW vehicles, but I hope to start getting rail equipment eventually. I use some stock Boley trucks but a lot of them I scratch build the utility boxes from styrene. I have;
1 GMC dump truck with utility trailer and back hoe
2 International welding truck
1 Ford F150 with utility box and hi-rail
1 Ford F150 with standard box and hi-rail
and Im in the process of making a Freightliner FL60 boom truck. All in UP paint.

Very glad you posted this! I’m still in the planning stages of my layout Will feature a two track mainline, mid sized American east coast town, freight and passenger service set in the1960s.
I’m planning on a having a diesel servicing facility (Walther’s kit) and I’ve hardly given any thought at all to M.O.W vehicles. Definetly a must! This would give me an excuse to obtain a couple of heavy weight cars and modify some of my old Athearn cars that I had been considering not even using. CSX has quite a bit of MOW equipment here in Tampa, so I can use these as references for weathering. What’s neat is that some of the cars are from the 1960s and 70s!
BTW: NightCrawler, many compliments on your tunnel motor! Your pictures have motivated me to install “See Thru” grills on a number of my units. I’ll post the pictures when finished, though it may be a month or so.
There’s plenty of MOW equipment in the LGB range - check out http://www.lgb.de/english/index.htm for details. Look under “products” then “speciality freight cars” for the more specialist vehicles, as well as elsewhere - the MOW electric loco I mentioned is under “electric locos” and the site’s well worth a look.
i have one of the sets of Walthers SP MOW cars. i am hoping that i can modernize and use some of the cars. istill need to add one of those self propelled cranes and some flats, gondolas, and a couple of old passenger cars. i just need to start researching what types of cars that the SP used.
i really wi***hat Walthers would re release their ballast and difco cars. i need quite a few of both. time for another annoying email campaign! everyone email Walthers and tell em to get off their butts and re release their ballast hoppers and Difco side dump cars![:D]

im still working on negotiations with my little brother to get a walthers American Crain. i’ve also been looking for a jorden spreader at train shows. no luck yet. thers a few other things that i want but nothing too bad.

And AntonioFP45, you can’t forget MoW, its my favorite part. That caboose looks awsome Noah, how much scratchbuilding have you done? Oh and it seems that LGB is really getting a lot of stuff now!
I’m going to have to get those ribbon rail racks. However, I don’t believe that they have the end sections. I guess that will require scratchbuilding. I need to try to get some more pictures of ribbion rail trains. I missed both the one on the NS and CSX somehow.[:(]
However, my next project is building those NS tie cars out of a Walthers bulkhead flat!
High railers have been done but only as low-volume kits. Kibri offer a static model based on a Mercedes Unimog truck, and someone offers a motorising kit for this - looks pretty good but is apparently very tricky to get hold of. It might be possible to build something combining a Tenshodo SPUD and a plastic kit for a base vehicle.
Bachmann are offering two MOW machines now - a Ballast tamper and a general MOW trolley thing with a hydraulic crane on the back. They also offer the tamper unpowered. I have one of the powered tampers and it’s very good, and though I’m unsure how accurate it is, it certainly runs well - one truck is powered through a small motor with a flywheel which allows it to creep very slowly. Interestingly they offer the same units (with buffers and tension-lock couplings) in their UK range!
