Jerusalem Light Rail was forced to finish off track adjacent to the Old City Wall with grass. It is regular concrete construction, clips, girder rail, etc., but above the concrete slab and between the rails, blocked from underneath the rails by neoprene, is turf with seeded grass. It doesn’t look all that great to me, but apparently it kept some complainants about tracks next to the historic wall happy. Elsewhere all track is in pavement, including all PRW, the idea is to accomodate emergency vehicles.
Mudchicken,
What if we genetically modify a type of grass that would act as a flange lubricator when crushed?
I don’t know how well that would work. When the Harris County Domed Stadium opened for games, a special grass was developed that would supposedly grow under the limited light of the new stadium. Unfortunately, the dome had to be painted over to eliminate glare and the grass died.
When I looked at this thread in my morning mail, I saw an advertisement for a lawn service at the bottom[:D]
Yeah, e-mail is fair game for the servers to read and glean possible sales contacts from. My son and I had fun throwing oddball words into a “chat” the other day and watching the adjoining adverts change to fit the subjects we were tossing out.
Personally, I consider it “STALKING” and I thought that was against the law. And if not, it oughta be! And the punishment for it should be exceedingly severe… as in fines paid to the people that were stalked. The amount of the fine should be 100 times the possible profit that could be made from the advertisement. i.e.: if the advertised item is $10, then the fine should be $1,000, paid to the person that received the advert!
The Milwaukee Road did it for decades. [swg]
