MP-15 issues.

I just bought an mp-15 with sound from atlas. I hate it. The front left light opening and numberboard do not light up. The led is out of position. The locomotive is extemely difficult to open. Any idea how to open the unit or fix the problem? This is the second time this year I have had a light issue with an out of the box atlas locomotive. Have they not ever heard of QUALITY CONTROL!!!

Send the model back to the LHS or Atlas and ask for a new one.

i would send it back toa tlas ask to exchange it fix it or get your money back

Big Blue,
How frustrating! My MP15 gold is perfect in every way. Sounds great, looks great, runs great… you got a factory error. I think the Atlas company is among the good guys… but any manufacturer faces problems like that… could have even happened in shipping. I agree with the guys above. Send it back. Still frustrating, though, I know.

So nobody knows whats wrong or how to fix it?

It’s pretty bad when you pay all that money and get a Bachmann quality job!

Gee, thanks.

We told you how to fix it if you read

No, nobody told him how to fix it, just to return for exchange/repair. That’s not a “how to fix” by my definition. I haven’t seen one of these models, but shouldn’t the instructions cover disassembly even for the purposes of lube and maintenance? I’m assuming not, since he had to ask for help on it.

Wish I could be of more help. Did you try the Atlas website and email their customer support? Maybe one of their techs could advise on how to open…

Reminds me of someone here a couple weeks ago who needed to open a Walthers SW1 to install a decoder (I had recently opened mine, so I remembered how off the top of my head).

Brad

Thing is this is a new unit under warranty. He should return it if not satisfied with it.If he starts playing round with it , it could void the warranty. If second hand that is a different story .The shop he bought it at should exchange it even.

Rember when people were happy with the old Con Cor MP-15-P.O.S.? ( I think most were bought just for the drives to put in somethig else. ) Send it back to Atlas or at least let them know about the problems you have had with their products. If you don’t get a reply let them know again and tell them their customer service SUCKS! or “They put the ‘CUSS’ in customer service”. They can’t fix what they don’t know is wrong. It’s America a free market system. Gee, I wonder why brand “X’s” product “K” doesen’t sell verry well?

I think you should sue. Claim for distress, trauma, the cost of counselling, distress to your family, co-workers, neighbours, the neighbours’ cats, the mailman…
AND demand twice the compensation… this is the SECOND time!

At the risk of being sued for causing you further distress I would point out that I received two (that’s right TWO) CNW MP15s earlier this year that have run perfectly straight from the box with no problems at all after being shipped all the way from China (Do they still shoot factory workers for such appalling negligence in production?)… then acrosss the Atlantic and half way round England.

You didn’t mention what road… Maybe, if it’s Conrail going through a bad period, the non-working light is true to prtotype?

Oh yes… and I had two Atlas CNW U30Cs that I know had been sitting on the LHS shelf for over a year after the same round-the-world trip…and they both worked straight from the box too [:p]

Does this make you jealous? [}:)]

Better than that… 18 months ago I was diagnosed (after three months of tests) as not having major cancer…how does that compare?

…and my friend-from-college-days’ son survived the Tsunami…

Have a nice day [:p]

C’mon, David, we’re all friends here…tell us how you REALLY feel!

Your BEST solution would be to contact Rob Pisani or Paul Graf at Atlas and advise them of the problem.Atlas stands behind their products.
Its as simple as that.

To open the loco, just remove the two couplers box and lift the shell off. It is a friction fit as clearly written in the instructions sheet.

Had to think about that one…

I’ve got clean drinking water on tap, electric light at the flip of a switch, gas heating on automatic, mains sewerage, refuse collection every monday, a passable Police service, excellent Fire Service, Ambulance to take me a short ride to one of three major hospitals any time I call 24/7. a choice of six major supermarkets for my food within 4 miles, three main DIY outlets plus countless smaller suppliers, a cabinet freezer full of food, electric cooker, microwave, desk-top PC, Laptop, Internet connections, landline phone, Mobile phone, my own van, a Bull Mastiff and acres of public park to walk him in200 yards away, TV (Er maybe that’s downside?), piles of CDs/DVDs/tapes, camera, digital camera, work that I like (most of the time)… I have disposable income that I can choose to spend on toy trains…

Then again I could have been born in the mountains of Pakistan, Darfur, the Nigerian delta, Northern Uganda, Zimbabwe, Gaza or the West Bank… this list also continues.

I think that I feel pretty fortunate.

AMEN Brother, Amen

Return a locomotive for a light out of place !?!? EXcuse me, I must be on the wrong planet.

Then again… I can go on the net and find a pic like this within seconds…

That I have to agree with. They do stand behind their products. Even back in the 80’s when Atlas was more or less something to be avoided, unless you liked fixing things. At least if if you didn’t like what you got, you could send it back and they would send you another one or a refund if you wanted. I might buy an Atlas in the couple of months, if for nothing else, to see how much they’ve improved.
