MP15AC ?

I drove by the Union Pacific yard at Dupo Ill. and saw a switcher pushing a long line of cars, The best I could make out, was a number that appeared to be MP15AC. the unit was fairly large, but did look like an old style switcher.
Could it have been an EMD1500 rebuild?

Have fun, and thanks.

Lee,

Those are actual EMD models of switchers.
From my understanding, there are 3 in the series, an AC, DC, & a TurboCharged one in limited numbers.
Spotting featuress are; the DC has a Radiator air intake grille on the front nose, the AC has ‘Tunnel style’ intake grilles on the lower front sides & a solid nose front.

there are models, & in HO:
Atlas makes the MP15DC
Athearn makes the MP15AC

Did you happen to catch the loco number itself? You can check against the roster here: http://www.thedieselshop.us/UP.HTML

Thanks for the information guys.
I didn’t get the number because even in a 30mph zone I was backing up traffic trying to focus on the little numbers. [:-^] It caught my eye because I had never seen a switcher like it in the yard before.

Happy MRRing.

Did it look like this one: http://www.railpictures.net/photo/337542/, or any of these: http://www.flickr.com/photos/47911905@N00/7781671996/

That’s it. The yard usually has the normal road switchers working the hump. I’m not good at identifying the exact make or model, but this loco was sure not their normal power.

That looks to be an MP15AC. As mentioned, the radiator grills on the side of the long hood are the dead give away. The Alternating Current generator is also a give away, but that one’s a little harder to tell.
