Got my model railroader mag yesterday in the mail…Haven’t had a chance to look it over real good yet but glancing through it , it looks like a good issue…not too many sales on in the hobby mail order stores …in fact…i’ve noticed that a lot of stuff has been marked up this month…[8D]
I’m always the last person on the planet to receive MR. It takes forever to get here. [:(]

Which planet?
Fire up your re-entry rockets to re-enter the earth.
I had my MR magazine about 10 days ago,[:P] but hey I live in Europe ! [:P]
I did happen to glance at the article on using colored computer printouts for building fronts…what do ya think?..is that cheezy or what?..I thought building the real plastic or balsa buildings ( even more so if they are scratch built out of styrene and or kitbashed) was part of the fun in the hobby…
cwclark,
You may want to give the article a little closer look. It was telling how to use computer printed copies of building kit parts to get an idea of how they fit together and worked with your layout. It was just a preliminary step – final construction would be with the plastic or wood parts. [:)]
like i said…I just glanced at it…i’ll have time to read it later this week…and how much do you want to bet that the printouts will find a permanent spot on somebodies’ layout?..If I were 20 again (not knowing any better) and it looked somewhat prototype…I might be tempted to do all my buildings that way…[}:)]
I got mine on saturday, great issue, Iv’e already read all the “important stuff”.
There seemed to be good deals on engines from Caboose Hobbies in CO. I don’t have the mag in front of me but I remember Genesis SD70/75s going for $69.95.

I get mine on the first not a day before nor after just like clockwork i love it ,now to the contents of the months MR mag it sux what gives there getting pretty cheap with the pics and info on the layouts they show the 4+8, which i was looking forward to was so done on the cheap by MR why did they even bother all they did was have me looking on other pages for it to be contined on a differnent page. i guess they’ed rather stuff it full of advertisements for $$$$$$$$$$$$ instead of making the subsriber ($39.95 per yr) happy and leaving us wanting more you leave me at least smaller in the wallet and hot under the collar.
Mine came today, and they finally visited a layout set in the MIDWEST, but it depicted a WESTERN road.
MR, when are you going to visit a layout based on the CNW, CGW, CRI&P, CB&Q, Milwaukee, Wabash, Illinois Central or Soo Line?
got mine yesterday too(5/3/04)! I’m not quite done reading it though. I liked the article on making realistic lakes it was a real good informative one.
Posted on another thread, but worth repeating here (imho)…
The current issue of MR is the best I’ve seen since I became a subscriber. Many useful and wide-ranging articles…
A zillion square foot multi-level HO layout for those with big dreams
An extremely well done 4’ X 8’ HO layout that any #8216;normal#8217; modeler could aspire to.
Gorgeous garden layout for all you folks with a million bucks and nothing to spend it on. [;)]
Informative “how to’s” on adding ground cover and modeling ponds (the section on creating lily pads was one of the coolest tips I’ve ever read).
I truly thought it was a great issue with something for everyone. Well Done!! [:)][:)]
uhhh… never?
i liked the 4 x 8 railroad…the scene of the re-enactment of the “American Gothic” painting was clever…guess i’ll have to wait to order stuff …everything was higher than it ever has been before…i refuse to pay over $50.00 for any Athearn Diesel locomotive…
Me thinks some of you folks don’t read MR very often or are fairly new readers as the Soo,CNW and Milwaukee have all been covered in MR layout articles.
My beef is ,when is MR going to quit using the term 0n2 1/2?It’s 0n30 guys ,got that. This is the only US mag that still uses this outdated term. How about you get with the program???
Geez, after saying all this yesterday maybe I should add today that I’m Njoying the mage even though there are no specific N scale articles.
I’am not an N scaler who believes that MR should be beat up because they don’t feature MY scale everymonth.
Well, my MR came yesterday (5/4) and I have only scanned it and read a couple of articles, but I think this looks like an excellent issue. The Santa Fe in Kansas article was very well done and the pics are excellent. No N scale stuff for us N scalers, but I’m not one of those N scalers who gets a persecution complex every month that a major N scale feature is not included. Every issue appeals to some and not so much to others. And no, I’m not a newbie. I’m an intermediated modeler who has been readin MR for 10 years. Overall I have to say about the June 04 issue “Good work guys. Thanks.”
Ron
Confused.
The May or the June issue?
I got my May issue of Trains just last week. Where is my MR? Did I forget to renew?? Or did the letter carries deliver it to the wrong address? This makes my brain hurt!
