MR Insider Exclusive: Printing Model Railroader at Quad/Graphics
Thanks for sharing. Very cool.
Can’t believe how automated the whole process is. A great video and its nice to see Jenny in a staring role.
Very interesting! My wife used to publish a trade magazine and watched this video with me.
Fascinating! Love behind-the-scenes stuff.
Very cool! The part that interested me the most was the “aluminum plates” that actually transfer the ink. Thanks for highly interesting video.
Very interesting. Thanks! I like the fact that the paper on which MR is printed arrives in a boxcar. Cool!
I enjoyed that! Since I don’t receive the paper edition I was hoping to see the hopper car unload pixels for the electronic edition.
Wow, that was really cool to watch. Great job Jenny and MRVP team.
Fascinating look at an industry. Great job by Jenny also!
it is always good to see how MR is printed. hey Jenny how about you show this to Cody and he can put the Quad Plant on the MR&T
Extremely interesting and so good that Jenny is getting to be the female face of MRR. Without a doubt MRR Video Plus has done so much for Model Railroader. Great stuff.
Interesting video. Though I would like to have seen how the printing plates were made.
Another idea would be to have a video about how Model RailRoader magazine is designed. The process of what goes into the magazine. How the text and graphics are made. The decisions about what content is to be put in. What does QuadGraphics get from Kalmbach that becomes a printing plate
Great effort all around!
Extremely interesting. Hey Jenny do you have a layout at home too?
Great job on a very interesting aspect your industry. How about a behind the scenes video of how you put Model railroader magazine together, before it goes to the printer. Keep up the great work on Model Railroader Video Plus.
Great video Jenny ! Now I have seen this multi-million dollar printing operation…the copy of MR magazine I am holding in my hand here in France is a real bargain at $6 a copy and worth every penny of the subscription !! Great video ! ![]()
I toured a Quad Graphics plant in Saratoga Springs NY near Albany and it was amazing to see the entire process. I worked for a company that sold an off line folding machine that folded inserts to place inside of People Magazine.
Great job Jenny on the questions.

Outstanding video; and a very interesting process! Good job, MRVP team. And by the way, my finicky cat who makes us jump through the hoops just to keep her interested in her food dish loves licking my Kalmbach pubs, but not pubs from other publishers. Maybe vegetable ink or something like that? Or she’s just nuts, ha ha ha!
Really good stuff, MR!

Very interesting and informative. It was neat to see the process from arrival of raw material to shipment of finished magazine. Also a great idea for a model railroad industry.
